The book of Hebrews is filled with blessings and warnings and chapter 12 reminds us that God is a consuming fire. We need to approach him with fear and love and as a result see our lives in light of the sacrifice of Jesus.

In Hebrews chapter 11, we are reminded of the many saints of old that put their faith in God for forgiveness of sins and the promise of a future. But who were these people and what can we learn about our own faith from them? Much!

Jesus fulfilled all of the law and ultimately sacrificed his life for the sins of the people. Once and for all. The power of this sacrifice is what gives us hope and brings us into a right relationship with God and one another.

Under the Old Covenant, the nation of Israel had to continually offer up sacrifices for their sin. It was an unending, daunting task. And once a year, the day of atonement, would be a special day of sacrifice that would take care of the sins of the nation. However, Hebrews 9 reveals that once Christ had offered up his life, there was no need for anymore sacrifices for sin. He offered a superior sacrifice!

During the establishment of the nation of Israel and the tabernacle, the nation had to continue to offer sacrifices through the Levitical priesthood. In this chapter, we will see how Jesus came to be the perfect, eternal high priest on our behalf.
