As we live out these God-given values, we will maintain our commitment to be good friends to others, and not just act "friendly." We will do good works, motivated not to gain attention or to earn respect, but because we have been so loved by God that love flows from us to others. We will share the Good News by following Jesus' instruction in Matthew 5:16: "Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

Thank you for joining us for this week's message! We're starting a new series that focuses on the Greater Vision that God has given us for Horizon West Church. We are committing these next four weeks to study and worship so that we can carry out this vision to build a permanent presence in Horizon West on the Schofield Road property that God has provided for us.

Today, Pastor Chris presents us with three keys for carrying out God's vision. The first key is for us to have Confidence in God's ability. The second key is for us to have Clarity on God's purposes. It is always in God's purposes for us to move forward with the freedom to be who God has made each of us to be. While God's specific plans vary across centuries, geographies, and communities, God's purposes of freedom and moving forward for the Glory of God remain the same. Lastly, we need Conviction about what to do next. This key takes us to the "nuts and bolts" of activities we put on our calendars, steps we set out to follow, and decisions we make to invest our time and resources in what God is leading us to do.

As we complete our series on marriages, Pastor Chris urges us to go beyond the present and examine how we think about our marriages and how our thoughts and actions can lead to healthier marriages. We should be thinking beyond our role and our spouse's role in the marriage, for we are much more than merely a role, and our value in a relationship is not measured by our productivity. We should be thinking beyond our happiness, and even beyond the happiness of our spouse, for happiness is a moving target. God calls us to grow in holiness, not just as individuals but as a couple. We should be thinking beyond our lifetime as well, for God's plan for us is to be a life-changing example of God's perfect love being shared with those around us.

While sin has distorted physical relationships, God's plan for marriage still creates and sustains couples who follow it. In this continuation of our series focused on marriages, Pastor Chris digs deeper into God's ideals for marriage as given in the first chapters of Genesis. One of these ideals is that we grow through close relationships. These relationships can be found in marriages and families, and Psalm 68:6 rejoices that "God sets the lonely in families" so that all of God's children can benefit from the blessings of close relationships. Another of these ideas for marriages is an equal partnership between the spouses, described in these passages from Genesis, a partnership benefitting from the differences between the individuals in a marriage. We want to build our marriage relationships on God's wisdom and catch ourselves before we confuse cultural expectations about relationships with the dreams for marriage that God shares with us.
