First Orlando - Horizon West Podcast

Thank you for joining us at Horizon West Church! With today's message, we have started into the final thoughts in Paul's first letter to the church in Corinth. The preceding chapters contain instructions on how to live as Christians and as a community of faith. Starting in chapter 14, Paul explains why these instructions are important: because the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus happened, because it matters, and because it changes everything!

Thank you for joining us at Horizon West Church for this New Year's Eve service! We have a tradition that we mark the start of a new year with a "blessing" service, filled with worship and prayer. For this year's service, we are focusing on how God has blessed us and how we can be ready for what God wants to do with us in the coming year. We are structuring this prayer time around three "movements": salvation for the nations, healing of people, and transfer of gospel faith to the next generation.

Thank you for joining us at Horizon West Church for this Christmas Eve service!

The story of God's gift to us in the birth of Jesus is the greatest story ever told, as God "became flesh and dwelt among us." The story of Christmas brought us Jesus to show us by thought and action what God's love is like, so Paul could write it for us in 1 Corinthians 13 that we have been studying for the month of December.

As the old hymn says, "Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all." If you prayed to make Jesus your Lord today, we'd love to celebrate with you! If you were moved by the Christmas season to go deeper in your faith journey, we want to support you as you grow your faith. If you would love for someone to pray with you, we are eager to pray with you. For any of these reasons, or if you would like more information about our church, please text the word "NEXT" to 407-77.

As we have been preparing for Christmas by studying the characteristics of God's love in 1 Corinthians 13, we have reflected on the essential nature of love and the strength inherent in love. In today's message, we consider why Paul wrote that love is "the greatest of these." Pastor Chris shares with us how this passage illuminates to us that only love is permanent, perfect, and most important of all to our faithful walk with God.

As we anticipate our Christmas celebrations, we remember that the birth of baby Jesus is a gift of love to us from God, so we're studying the "love chapter" of the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13, leading up to our Christmas Eve services. In today's message, we reject the pop culture view of love as "emotion" and delve into the commitments that love equips us to make to ourselves, to others, and to God.

As we celebrate the season of Advent leading up to Christmas, we rejoice that love came down to earth with the birth of the baby Jesus. There is no passage of scripture that better defines God's love than 1 Corinthians 13, and this week begins a short series on what this passage teaches us about God's perfect love and how we are to live so that we are sharing that love. Today, we look at how even activities that we think are "good" fall short of God's plan if we don't have love.

In today's message, Pastor David Uth reminds us that being a faithful Christian is not about us. Being faithful to Jesus means following the two greatest commandments that Jesus explained in Matthew 22:37-40; we are to love God and love other people. We should avoid anything that would distract us from following these two commandments.

As we prepare to celebrate the Thanksgiving Day holiday, Pastor Chris gives us five reasons why giving thanks is important to us. In these five reasons, we consider how expressing thanks is beneficial to our souls, to the growth of our faith, and to the authenticity of our witness.

Each of us are unique individuals, shaped by our personal experiences, and blessed by God with talents and abilities specific to us to be used in service to God and to others. Healthy environments prosper from the strength of the diverse contributions of participants, but unhealthy environments, like the church in Corinth, tear themselves apart by rejecting, rather than respecting, the uniqueness of each individual.

In today's message, Pastor Chris looks at Paul's directions to that church that aimed to turn them around, and apply those instructions to our lives today. Our church is dedicated to these teachings as a diverse community of good friends, together doing good works, and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
