First Orlando - Horizon West Podcast

Thank you for joining us for this Palm Sunday service at Horizon West Church! Today's message centers on the passage in John 8 where Jesus identifies Himself as the Light of the World. We know we need light, we know light is good for us, but when we have something we want to keep hidden, we pull away from the Light. Listen as Pastor Chris teaches us how the Light shows us the way to wholeness and peace.

Thank you for joining us at Horizon West Church! In biblical times, shepherds would allow their sheep to graze during the day, then find a safe place, like a cave, for the sheep to stay at night when predators hunted. The shepherd would stay at the mouth of the cave overnight, using himself as the door to the cave, to ensure that the sheep did not wander off and that no wolves could enter the cave. In today's passage, Jesus assured us that He is our door, and Pastor Chris teaches us the wonder and the blessings we receive through this promise from Jesus.

Thank you for joining us at Horizon West Church! In today's passage from John 10, Jesus described three characteristics of a great leader. As Jesus teaches us, a great leader is committed to care for his followers, is able to protect his followers, and is willing to sacrifice for his followers. In Jesus' day, those who claimed to be the great leaders of the Jewish temple didn't practice any of these characteristics. Most of us today have worked for leaders who made our jobs miserable because they didn't follow these characteristics either. In Jesus, we see the perfect leader in this One who cares for us, protects us, and gave Himself for us -- praises be to God for such love and mercy for us!

Thank you for joining us at Horizon West Church! One of the most memorable miracles in Jesus' ministry is when He fed 5000 people with just a boy's lunch of bread and fish. As he uses this miracle to teach people about Himself, he explains that He is the bread of life: the bread that sustains, the bread that never spoils, and the bread that satisfies. In today's message, Pastor Chris explains the parallel between this promise from Jesus and the miracle when God provided manna in the wilderness as the descendants of Abraham left Egypt for the Promised Land.

Thank you for joining us at Horizon West Church! In John 15, Jesus uses a familiar scene, that of gardeners tending grape vines, to teach His followers about our relationship with Him and with God. Jesus describes us as branches attached to Himself as the True Vine, with God as the gardener tending the plant. Jesus' illustration and teachings show how valuable it is for us to be attached to the True Vine, which sustains us, blesses us, and allows us to embrace and participate in the Gardener's purposes.

Thank you for joining us at Horizon West Church! Today's message comes from John 14, where Jesus describes himself to his disciples as "the way, and the truth, and the life." This promise applies to us, too. Jesus is our guide to what is best for us, and we can trust Jesus because of the joy we see in others who have followed Him faithfully and humbly. In Jesus' own life, we see the model He has for our lives, full of mercy, love, sacrifice, and community.

Thank you for joining us at Horizon West Church! Today we start a new series of messages on who Jesus is, based on seven scriptures from the gospel of John. In this message, we look at John 8:12-20 when Jesus called himself the "I Am." Not only does this statement identify Jesus as one with God, it shows us our source of hope today. Jesus was not merely a historical figure; He is with us now, loves us just as we are today, and eagerly invites us to engage more deeply with Him.

Thank you for joining us at Horizon West Church! Today's message is based on the second chapter of Paul's letter to the Ephesians to consider the good news of our salvation. In this message, Pastor Sócrates walks us through these verses to understand what we are saved FROM, what we are saved BY, and what we are saved FOR. Our new everlasting life in Christ Jesus saves us from the spiritual death brought by sin. We are saved by the grace of God alone and not by any action we could take to earn or deserve this salvation. God doesn't stop pouring grace on us once we have accepted this salvation, however. God has saved us for a fulfilling life of joy, of growth, of valuing and honoring others, and of good and generous service to others.

Thank you for joining us at Horizon West Church! Today, we're completing our year-long study of Paul's first letter to the church in Corinth. In chapter 16 of First Corinthians, we learn Paul's teaching of how we get ourselves ready for God to move in our lives, our church, and our communities. There are five preparations we need to make: we need to be ready to give, ready to serve, ready to stand for love over evil, ready to honor and encourage others, and ready for Jesus and His heavenly kingdom.
