Police in KwaZulu Natal are investigating two counter cases of assault by Premier Sihle Zikalala and former Ukhozi FM broadcaster Ngizwe Mchunu. The pair registered cases of assault against each other at the Durban Central Police Station after an incident that took place during the Ingoma KaZwelonke traditional dance competition at the Moses Mabhida Stadium at the weekend. A 16-year-old girl has been arrested at Calcutta in Mpumalanga in connection with the murder of her two-week-old child. The child's grandmother was reportedly asleep when she woke up and discovered that the baby was missing. Mpumalanga police say the grandmother then asked the child's mother about the infant's whereabouts but the teen apparently refused to speak. The grandmother then reported the matter to the police. Legal representatives of over 300 miners who launched a lawsuit against President Cyril Ramaphosa have argued that he is liable for the action by police that led to the death of 34 mineworkers in Marikana in the North West almost ten years ago. The case by the mineworkers to sue the Ramaphosa, Sibanye Stillwater, and the government was heard in the Gauteng High Court yesterday (Thursday). The civil suit was put on hold last year after the miners successfully lodged an application for the recusal of Judge Colin Lamont. The Presidency has dismissed claims by former Spy boss Arthur Fraser that President Cyril Ramaphosa acted criminally with regard to a robbery that took place at his farm. This is based on a robbery of over four million US dollars in February 2020 at the President's Phala Phala farm in Waterberg, Limpopo. Fraser alleges that the President was involved in defeating the ends of justice, kidnapping suspects, interrogating and bribing them, and thereafter concealing the crime from the police. Malesela Teffo, the defense advocate for the four men accused of the murder of Senzo Meyiwa, says he will bring evidence that the goalkeeper was allegedly shot by his then-girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, by mistake. Teffo raised this during his cross-examination of state witness - Sergeant Thabo Mosia. Five men are on trial for the murder of the soccer icon in the Pretoria High Court. The Constitutional Court deadline looms large in the race to amend the Electoral Act 73 of 1998 by parliament. The bill aims to make the Electoral Act constitutional by incorporating independent candidates into the electoral system.
