Three people including a traditional healer have appeared at the Estcourt magistrate court in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, today, for the possession of human body parts. The International Red Cross says the number of people killed in the mudslides caused by floods in Sierra Leone has passed 400. Senior officials say 600 more are still missing. The disaster began on Monday when heavy rains hit in and around the capital, Freetown, and the partial collapse of a hillside triggered mudslides, engulfing homes and wreaking destruction. A delegation from the Israeli Knesset (parliament) were in the country over the past two days, hoping to meet with the South African parliament in order to discuss cooperation between the two countries. However, the meeting did not take place, this after the ANC Parliamentary Caucus rejected the request by the Israeli government. This comes dead of the heels of the party's policy conference where they took a resolution to reduce the South African embassy in Israel to just an office. Justice Minister Michael Masutha has welcomed the ruling by the Supreme Court of Appeal to set aside a high court judgement for Janusz Walus's release on parole. The SCA upheld Masutha's appeal after the High Court in Pretoria earlier set aside his decision NOT to grant the parole. Today is the deadline for affected families of Life Esidimeni patients to contact the office of the premier in Gauteng, to be a part of a dispute resolution process. The premier's office wants to begin an alternative dispute resolution into the deaths of more than 100 patients who died in 2016 after being moved from Life Esidimeni to non-government organisations that were not qualified to provide healthcare. Retired Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke has been appointed to lead mediation between the government and the family of the Life Esidimeni victims.
