The Water and Sanitation department says it's confident that the release of water from Sterkfontein dam will help to reduce water shortage in Gauteng.The department has released water from the dam near Harrismith in the eastern Free State to the Vaal dam which will supply water to residents in the area. We spoke to Mlimandlela Ndamase, spokesperson for Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane.

The rand has eased against a basket of currencies after the NPA said investigations into Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan's role in setting up a surveillance unit at the SA Revenue Service were at an advanced stage. This follows the response by the National Director for Public Prosecutions, Shaun Abrahams, to allegations that the charges against Gordhan were politically-motivated. Abrahams was addressing the Justice and Correctional Services Committee following the subsequent withdrawal of charges against Gordhan and two SARS officials - Irvin Pillay and Oupa Magashula...

Clive Derby-Lewis has lost his battle against cancer in the Eugene Marais Hospital in Pretoria today. The pro-Apartheid politician, Derby-Lewis,was known for his role in the assassination of one of South-Africa's most popular politicians -. The leader of the South African Communist Party, Chris Hani. Hani was shot dead in the driveway of his Boksburg home in 1993. He was released on medical parole in May 2015 after serving more than 20 years in jail. His parole did not come easy he had to endure a lengthy legal battle as the Hani-family and the SACP opposed his release every time.

A group of ANC stalwarts held a press conference in Johannesburg today, to address some of the revelations made in a report into allegations of state capture which was released yesterday. Among them is Reverend Frank Chikane, Trevor Manuel, Andrew Mlangeni and Sydney Mufamadi. The veterans have again requested to meet with the ANC Top Six members. Luthuli House earlier accused ANC stalwarts and veterans of talking about the party in public spaces. Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela says in her remedial action in the State Capture report that President Zuma should institute that a judicial commission of inquiry be appointed within 30 days into the findings of corruption in relation to her report. She's further submitted notice to the National Prosecuting Authority to investigate those implicated of criminal wrongdoing. The extensive report was released a short while ago following the High Court in Pretoria's order.

Proceedings are underway in the High Court in Pretoria. Judges Dunstan Mlambo, Phineas Mojapelo and Dawie Fouri are presiding over President Jacob Zuma's bid to interdict the release of the Public Protector's report on so-called state capture. Opposition parties are opposing President Jacob Zuma's attempt to stop the release of the report into his relationship with the Gupta family.

Charges against Robert Mcbride and his two co accused have been withdrawn in the Pretoria Magistrates Court. The state decided to withdraw the case as witness were reluctant to come forward. McBride and his two co accused were charged with fraud and defeating the ends of justice. The charges against the three related to their investigation of former Hawks head, Anwa Dramat's alleged illegal rendition of Zimbabwean nationals in 2010.
