First Time Lord

These last two episodes have challenged me with what I thought an episode of Doctor Who could be. This episode had so many facets to process that I felt overwhelmed. Upon finishing the episode, I postponed the recording of the podcast so that I could watch it again. After recording the podcast, I sat down and watched it again. In case you were wondering, I love this episode.

Series 4 - Episode 9 - Forest of the Dead.

The conclusion of this two-parter requires the return of the queen of “Spoilers Sweety,” Jenni Fay Berry.

I can’t explain how much I enjoyed this episode, and at the same time, how difficult it was for me to follow. There’s a lot of information that will come, as this is a two-parter, but the plot of this episode is very Doctor Who.

Series 4 - Episode 8 - Silence in the Library

Navigating this tricky spoiler-filled episode, I need the queen of “spoiler” warnings, the lovely Jenni Fay Berry.

In what has to be one of my favorite stand-alone episodes of this series, I get to see how the Doctor and Donna would carry themselves inside of a murder mystery story. This story just evoked so many familiar and nostalgic emotions that I just smiled from beginning to end.

Series 4 - Episode 7 - The Unicorn and the Wasp

I reached out to my old-school expert for such an old-school feeling episode, and Jon Soble joins me to deconstruct this fun adventure.

Before watching this episode, I couldn't have foreseen how much I would end up loving it. Martha is back on the TARDIS and goes with Donna and the Doctor on an adventure. While I enjoyed the emotional growth the Doctor goes thru; I found the overall plot of this episode magnificent.

Series 4 - Episode 6 - The Doctor's Daughter

The subject matter felt so personal and emotional that I am thrilled to have Jamie Kern join me as this week's expert.

This conclusion felt so fun and satisfying that I almost didn't stop watching it at the end of the episode. There's at least one "spoiler's sweetie" moment that I can't wait to get to, and even though every unanswered question from last week's episode gets dealt with, the episode ends on what I can only imagine is the beginning of another adventure.

Series 4 - Episode 5 - The Poison Sky

To unravel the mysteries of the Santaram and get to the bottom of their dastardly deeds, I recruit the incomparable ball of enthusiasm that is Jenni Fay Berry.

What a fun time I had watching this episode. From Martha’s return to Donna making her mark to my first experience with the Sontaran. I loved every second, right up until it turned into another two-parter.

Series 4 - Episode 4 - The Sontaran Strantagem

With answers to previous clues surfacing, and as always, more questions being raised, I go to a mega-fan with all of the answers. Jenni Fay Berry joins me this week to explain Sontaran’s, Martha’s relationship status and to make me hungry with a lot of talk of backed potatoes.

The first time I met the Ood, I notice how they look like they are evil. But as it turns out, they were just a slave race that got controlled by the Devil. Now we get to delve into who the Ood are and why we should care.

Series 4 - Episode 3 - Planet of the Ood.

Because I need an expert that can help me process the events of this episode, I asked back an expert that has already talked to me about Oods, the incomparable John Soble.

It's Donna's first trip on the TARDIS, so of course, the Doctor takes her to the past. Of course, it can't just be a routine trip, and soon the Doctor and Donna find themselves in the middle of a crisis that could alter one of those FIXED points in time.

Series 4 - Episode 2 - The Fires of Pompeii.

There's some heavy stuff happening in this week's episode, so I enlist the help of not one but two of my Whovian experts to untangle the implications of this week's adventure. Ashley Martin and Jennie Fay Berry help me figure out what is happening in Pompeii.

Hard to believe it, but here I am, a noob, and somehow I’ve made it to Series 4. So far, the journey has been incredible. With every episode, I appreciate the myth of the Doctor more and more. With every Series, I become a more staunch Whovian. Fortunately, I still have a long way to go in my journey to understanding everything about this expansive universe. So today, we start the next chapter in my education.

Series 4 - Episode 1 - Partners in Crime.

To help ease me back into the Doctor’s story, especially as we get a new companion, I enrolled a friend of the show and Doctor Who fan Eric Sweetman to chat about this new beginning and everything that I will need to pay attention to future episodes.

This series had some severe twists and turns. Some episodes took me for a ride, and some episodes left me speechless. To recap, I invited my first-timer partner in crime, my wife, Shannon. Together we ruminate on this intense series.
