  • Episode 14 - Season 1 Recap

It has been such a fantastic journey. Fourteen weeks ago, I had not seen any Doctor Who what’s so ever. And now here I am, about to start watching the adventures of the 10th Doctor. (And I know what that means to boot.) To prepare for the new chapter, I wanted to take the time to recap everything that’s happened so far and clear the way with any lingering questions before embarking on the journey of the new regeneration.

Join me this week as I tie up the loose ends of Season 1 with my remarkable guest this week, Jon Soble.

  • Episode 13 - The Parting of the Ways

Well, I made it. I have gone thru my first full season. This means that I have watched all of the 9th Doctor's adventure. It's a little bittersweet. But the action-packed episode more than makes up for it. From finally getting to conclusively know who/what Bad Wolf is to watching the Doctor face off against an army of Dalek, this is episode packs a wallop. So good, yet so many questions to ask.

Season 1, Episode 13, The Parting of the Ways.

This week I'm joined by not one but two of the most enthusiastic Doctor Who fans I've had on the show. Jennie Fay Berry and Ashley Martin join me for a very illuminating conversation.

From the beginnings of a seemingly great day with good friends, The Doctor quickly discovers that an old threat has resurfaced. As expected, the world will once again need to be saved from utter destruction by the quick thinking of The Doctor, Rose, and Captain Jack. • Episode 10 - The Doctor Dances

In a profoundly personal episode of the podcast, I discuss the story arch's conclusion that started with 'The Empty Child.' The creepy vibes of the previous installment give way to the most human moment I've witnessed the Doctor have, evoking some powerful emotions in both my guest and me. Having found solace and hope in the Doctor and his companion in these dark and tumultuous times, the ending of this episode reaffirmed mine and my guest's belief that he can bring light into the darkest of times.

Season 1, Episode 10 - The Doctor Dances.

This week, I'm joined once more by the wonderful Jennie Fay Berry, who personally requested to cover this episode because of how much she loves it.

  • Episode 9 - The Empty Child

This episode is by far the creepiest I've watched thus far. The hallmark of good fiction, and specifically good horror, is simplicity. The simple image of a humbly dressed child, wearing a gas mask asking, "are you my mummy?" will forever haunt my dreams now. It's a more disturbing image than Fredy Krugger ever was. While World War II rages in this adventure's background, Rose gets courageous, and the Doctor is once again trying to save humankind from extinction.

Episode 9 - The Empty Child

Jenni Berry returns to First Time Lord to discuss one of her absolute favorite episodes. Listen now to uncover the secrets of The Empty Child, and learn about how 20-year-old gadgets affect future technologies. Oh, we also talk about a new character that captures my imagination and Jenni’s heart.

  • Episode 8 - Father’s Day

For weeks now, the Doctor and Rose have gone is some fantastic adventures, frequently saving the world from all sorts of alien threats. I should be used to the world being in danger of ending, but this episode hit me right in the feels. In the most sentimental and emotional episode yet, I find myself learning some exciting details about the Time Lords. I also find my heartstrings tugged by the story of Rose’s father.

    Season 1, Episode 8, Father’s Day

My guest this week, Ashley Martin, specifically requested to talk to me about this episode as Rose is her favorite companion. She had all sorts of exceptional behind the scenes info about this episode, genuinely helping me expand my Doctor Who knowledge.

  • Episode 7 - The Long Game

By now, we've learned that Doctor Who has episodes that mean a lot to the greater story and world that the show creates, and some episodes are just "One-off" episodes. The Long Game is most definitely one of those "One-Offs." But there is so much in this episode that resonates with what is happening in the world today. While we may not be living thru "The Fourth and Bountifull Human Empire," we have a lot in common with the people of this episode, and we could learn from it.

Season 1, Episode 6, The Long Game.

This week, my guest is the knowledgeable and slightly elder Jon Soble. Join us as we discuss the fascinating details of this wild story.

  • Episode 6 - Dalek

The Doctor comes face to face with some of his most feared enemies, revealing a little more about the events of the last great Time War. As this confrontation unfolds, millions of bystanders' fate may be decided by an influential American who seems to collect and profit from old alien technology. With so much past lore at play in this episode, I enlist the help of a Doctor Who fan that goes way back to help me make sense of it all.

    Season 1, Episode 6 - Dalek

Jon Soble, a real old school Who fan, will help me navigate the Daleks' complex history and how this encounter may affect the Doctor in the future.

Going along with the idea that Doctor Who just plays with the stakes always turned up to 100%, we head into yet another episode in which the world is on the brink of disaster. It’s up to Rose, the Doctor, and MP Harriet Jones to save London and the world in continuing last week’s episode ‘Aliens of London.’
