I’m Isabel Prosper, Welcome to The First Time Moms Beyond 35 Podcast. On today’s episode, I spoke to a NICU Nurse in Ohio. From age 30 she had tried to conceive and by age 36, she was diagnosed with PCOS. She eventually used fertility drugs and then gave up after a failed IUI. By age 37, she was divorced and then remarried at 44. She was pregnant after only 3 weeks of being married to her new husband (without even trying).
Her experience as a NICU nurse is more than just rocking and feeding babies. She is the support system for the families and their newborn babies. Good news...she tends to see less older first time moms with babies in the NICU. Thank you for sharing your story, Beth.
Take a listen and be encouraged by her story.

In this episode, I am speaking with Betsy Horne, a professional opera singer who delivered her baby at 41. She talks about following her intuition, understanding what was right for her and listening to her body while her baby was in her womb. She was advised to have a planned c-section, however serendipitous events lead her to the beautiful natural water birth.

I am speaking with new mom, Katie, who lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and 14 month old baby. At 26 years old, after her engagement, she received the news that her mom had cancer. Her mom was sick for 5 years before she passed and Katie was her primary caretaker. Carrying the stress and witnessing her mom’s battle weighed heavy on her life and health. Prior to losing her mother, she also lost her grandmother and then lost her grandfather. She also lost her aunt and uncle. Within a 9 year period she struggled with loss, including a miscarriage due to endometriosis.
At 39 years old, she was told to have IVF because there was no other way to conceive. She decided to take care of herself, have the laparoscopy in order to diagnose and confirm what was happening in her body. She was on a journey to reset her body. Her health drastically improved when she began making changes. In July 2019, she found out that she was pregnant and she held the pregnancy! It took 9 years to conceive her healthy happy baby.
She is now a first time mom at the age of 41!
Katie has started a private group called Clean Inspiration to help others live a toxin-free lifestyle.

Are you pregnant and constantly want to know that everything is going along okay? You might consider using a Fetal Doppler. This device uses ultrasound waves to detect the baby's heartbeat. Be warned that this device is not recommended for use by the FDA, although it is available to purchase. If you plan to use one, please talk to your doctor first. In this episode, I spoke to Leslie Solorzano about her use of the fetal doppler. We all have a form of stress during and after pregnancy. We will hear how Leslie managed her stress while pregnant and what techniques she uses today with her baby. She has figured out how to release tension with love and positive thoughts. To connect with Leslie you can find her on Instagram: @lessonsfrommotherhood

I'm back with Part 2 of my chat with Nurse and Author, Sarah Beeson.
Sarah Beeson is our guest in this episode and she is the Co-Author of "Happy Baby, Happy Family." As a long time nurse, Sarah has a wealth of knowledge and has advised families for decades. When her daughter and Co-Author, Amy Beeson, had her first baby, Sarah was inspired to write the book because she had a wealth of information that new moms found more useful than what they had been reading in other places. We had a candid conversation about Sarah's experiences with older first time moms. We look at the positive characteristics and she offers advise that gives comfort to any first time mom. She even has a message about Dads!
You can learn more about Sarah at sarahbeeson.org and email her at [email protected].

In this episode, I speak to Heather Olivadoti, about her choice to have a baby on her own. She is a 41 year old, paralegal and her little bundle of joy is 8.5 months old.
Heather has always known that she wanted a baby. Without a partner at the advanced maternal age, she decided to have the baby on her own. In our conversation, she shares the importance of a strong support system to help her get through the good times and the oh-so challenging moments.
A study by investigator Mathilde Breweays from the Centre of Expertise on Gender Dysphoria of the VU University Medical Centre, Amsterdam reported that "Single-mothers-by-choice and their children benefit from a good social support network".
Are you facing the decision to have a baby on your own? Are you having a baby on your own and scared? Listed to what this mom has to say.
