Join us for a look into our past, present, and future as we honor the founding of our church in 1891, 125 years ago. We will also honor members who have been part of the church for many years. This church would not be the same without you.

Like the lily in springtime, our lives are resurrected time and again after change, loss, and new experiences. We see our past sometimes with new eyes, which can bring nuance and beauty. Through the effort to see our lives with new eyes, new truths emerge, along with compassion, hope, 

and renewal.

Join us as we introduce the theme for the month, Balance.   Balance is often spoken of, but is not so easy to achieve. The concept of yin and yang and earth-based spiritualities can be helpful as we look for ways to conceptualize balance, perceive imbalance, and work towards balance in our lives. Often, it is found in the long term, rather than the short term. This being true, we are urged to persevere as we work towards balance as individuals and as a community.

There is much in life to be grateful for and to find joy in. And, there is much suffering and struggle. Balance does not suggest that things are always going to even out or be rosy through the rearview mirror of life. Balance reminds us that humans are resilient. It invites us to trust that hope is rugged and strong, able to carry us through moments of difficulty until 

happiness or joy arrives.

To find balance is to avoid excess and deficiency. Aristotle, Confucius, and others elevated the importance of balance in life. Seeing balance in nature or in another person was something to emulate. Come for an exploration into the Golden Mean as a practice and a pathway toward a meaningful and centered life.

Showing respect toward others can be simple and ask little of us, or it can come from a deeper place in our minds and hearts. When respect is more than skin deep, it requires courage and vulnerability. Join us for an exploration into the heart of respect with a special guest speaker who is a member of the congregation: Xander Trullinger! This service will also feature an In My Own Words for the Combined Capital and Stewardship Campaign by Howard Roitman.

Respect is a two-way street. It is given and received, held and shared. Whether we respect others has profound implications for our relationships. Join us for a service exploring the mutuality of respect and the gifts it brings to our lives.

Rev. Jeannie Shero and Aaron Norris, Ministerial InternAs Carl Townsend wrote, “All healing is first a healing of the heart.” Preparing ourselves for the awakening of a new year brings urgency to look within and seek healing of our hearts. Then, it calls us beyond ourselves to look to others, finding ways to participate in the healing of the world.

Some moments and experiences in life will call for special courage to be our authentic selves and to contribute to the healing of the world by confronting injustice. Courage unites our mind and heart toward action. Cultivating courage is a lifelong work that touches every part of our lives, and can enrich our experience of life.
