Yesterday morning, residents of the Sydney suburb of Mosman were woken by a booming alarm. This was no drill. Five lions had escaped from their enclosure at Taronga Zoo just down the road.

So how did these apex predators launch their daring escape winning the hearts of Sydneysiders who haven't been this entranced by a rebellious gang of animals since three baboons escaped from an inner city hospital complex in 2020?
