Background: I am Portland native and the city of Portland has changed drastically in the last 10-15 years for the worse. I'm a working mom. I'm a lawyer. I've organized BLM conferences. I've lobbied for a minimum wage for farmworkers. I'm a liberal. I've never voted Republican in my life. I voted for Biden. I am anonymous because I fear retaliation and do not feel safe expressing a viewpoint that is critical of Antifa in the city of Portland. The title "Wall of Moms" is satire. The Wall of Moms was probably well intentioned, but that group did not age well. Even public officials are not safe in Portland when they express views contrary to the woke mob. They are terrorized with impunity. According to the Oregonian, Dan Ryan's house was vandalized seven times. Mayor Ted Wheeler's condo's windows were smashed and a fire was set inside of his building. He moved due to the mob after purchasing his condo for over $800,000 only three years prior. The lawyers for the Portland police union had their offices vandalized. Let's back up what we say with data and listen to each other and engage in nuanced discussions.I'm disappointed with my political party and the state of Oregon for supporting and allowing prolonged school closures. Fauci wanted schools open back in 2020. We should have listened to him and followed the science. I'm just one mom in Portland, Oregon, but I know that there are other people like me. I know that there are others who:Want racial justice and criminal justice reform, but who do not want to abolish or defund the police.Believe in the right to public education and all services that public school children are entitled to.Believe that people should not be allowed to live in tents or on the streets and should be cared for via mandatory mental health and addiction treatment.Do not want to live in unsafe, garbage-filled cities.I'm anonymous so that I can give you a no holds barred view of what is happening in Portland, Oregon. The best and most intellectually satisfying conversations right now are happening in private. Let's shine a light on the voices of the people who are afraid to speak out, and on the people who are speaking out publicly, but who have heterocdox views. These are complex stories that no one else is telling. Let's navigate this polarized society together with nuance and intelligence.
