John begins with a theological "Word / Light" thought, Luke starts with some of Jesus' cousins and their connection, and Mark gets right to the point, skipping to adulthood. But Matthew starts with a... genealogy?

The birth of Jesus took place with not a lot of fanfare. There weren't huge crowds gathered around, and there weren't any parades or public announcements. God made His entrance into our world and fulfilled His plan to rescue us from our sins by becoming a defenseless baby laid in a feeding trough. Such a simple start to such an amazing life and mission! If God can do that with Jesus, what can He do with me?

// If you're like us, the Christmas story has been played and replayed in our minds eye HUNDREDS of times. We've heard the story of a young Jewish girl being visited by an angel, a miraculous birth, a questionable gifts from mysterious Magi, and the flight to Egypt. We know the Christmas Story. We've heard it a million times. So what's more to learn?

// In the week's Unscripted, Marshall and Brandon dive into some popular Christmas scriptures to reflect on the context, assumptions the authors make, and just to simply ponder the FIRST story of Jesus with some fresh eyes. We hope this brings some joy to your week!

God designed us to be in connection with Him and to be a reflection of Him. But then sin entered the world and messed things up, made things complicated. So God came up with a simple plan - to send His Son rescue us from sin. In a time when the Christmas holiday has become bombarded with busyness and complexity - advertising, shopping, travel plans, coronavirus - one of the things we may need most this Christmas is to recognize the simple plan of a loving God to send His Son to bring light to a dark world.

One of the last things that Jesus said before leaving this earth was, "Go make disciples of all nations." That still remains a challenge for us today - to let the world know about Jesus and how to find life and purpose in Him. If God wants every human being to have the opportunity to experience His grace, what am I doing to be a part of that mission?

// Forgive and forget, right? Man, if it were that easy... Many of us struggle with forgiving others, and maybe even more, forgiving OURSELVES. So what happens when we feel like we have a hard time forgiving ourselves? And if we struggle with that, how could God, the great Almighty who knows my innermost-being, possibly forgive me when I struggled to forgive myself?
