    - We tend to respond sinfully to both blessings and challenges. 

    1. What fruit is my life growing? (Thoughts, words, actions, emotions)

    2. What does that fruit show is my functional identity? (In control, Alone, Sovereign, Lawmaker ...) 

    3. What does that fruit/identity say I beleive God has done/not done? (Abandoned me, cast me off, distant, rejected, not ruled world, not done right)

    4. What does this say I believe about who God is in this circumstance? (Judge, Impotent, Unconcerned, Absentee Father, Not Good)

    Root to Fruit: 

    1. What is true about who God is relative to my false view? (Redeemer, Sovereign, Love, Present, Good, Involved) 

    2. What is true about what God has done, especially in the Person of Christ? (Forgiven, Active FOR me, Adopted, Working out good, ...)

    3. Who am I in light of God's truth? (Loved Child, Accepted, Justified, Heir, ...) 

    4. What should I do in light of who God is and who I am? (Fruit of Spirit, Love/Care for Others, Participate in life of body, Forgive as forgiven, Bear with as I am borne with by Jesus, be compassionate, speak words that build up...)

    b. What gets in the way of you listening well to other people? What are some ways to adjust?
    c. What are some good questions you use to get to know/check on other people? Why do you think they are so helpful?

    b. God Often Draws out our Hearts by Questions (Adam, Elijah, Job, Jonah)!

    i. Am I dealing w/ a Sinner who is Suffering: Truth-> Grace
    ii. Am I dealing w/ a Sufferer who is Sinning: Grace-> Truth
    g. Some Examples:
    i. You hear a friend make sarcastic joke about spouse, remember that’s the third one in as many hours; as you sit down for lunch you ask?
    ii. Sitting over coffee your friend talks about being worried about relationship (kids, spouse, roommate, friend); remember worry seems to come up
    each time you meet and about a variety of subjects, so you ask?
    iii. Having a fun night catching up w/ friends, your friend casually mentions feeling guilty about not doing more ministry. Later guilty comes up again
    not accepting new role invited to at church. Then for 3rd and 4th time guilty comes up w/ yet other areas. So you ask? [Pretend not legit guilt]
    iv. You hear about and see some instances where a friend or spouse gets sinfully angry (low level but hot). Ask to grab breakfast and you ask?
    III. Table Time- Application
    a. Review the Examples above and discuss 3-5 questions/follow ups to understand more about what is going on with your friends?
    b. What is your most common barrier to drawing out friend’s heart? How does that play out? (Maybe on list or maybe different one all together)
    c. How could you see yourself practically and intentionally listening better to others?
    i. What changes or practices would you implement?

    2. How does a persons thought life affect their actions, behaviors, feelings, etc.? Why?
    3. How aware do you think people are of their thought life? Why do you think that is?

            1. An unexamined heart eventually wreaks havoc on your life
            2. It leads to the real problem (worship) which leads to the real solution (a better worship)
            3. So you can love God with all your heart, mind, and strength (Matt. 22:37)

            6. What are some of the effects of these problematic thoughts in their life & relationships?
            7. What are some things that might really be going on in the heart that cause these problematic thoughts? What might these thoughts show what a person worships & wants (Purpose, Security, Fulfillment)?
