Every aspect of our lives should reflect our confidence in God and is evidence that we believe He will fulfill His promises. That even includes the way that we handle the death of loved ones, and that is reflected in Abraham's life in the way that he grieved and made arrangements for Sarah's burial. The care that he showed in making arrangements is evidence of his confidence in a future resurrection, when he and Sarah would both experience the fullness of God's magnificent promises to him of the land, an innumerable number of descendants, and being the source of blessing for the entire world. Our assurance of our Lord's return and our resurrection and glorification are demonstrated in the way that we look upon our death and those we care about.

How does Noah's ark point us to Christ and His salvation? 1) Just as the ark was graciously provided by God for sinners, so salvation in Christ is graciously provided by God for sinners 2) Just as the ark was a place of safety, so Christ is a place of safety 3) Just as Noah and his family had to come into the ark for their safety, so we must come to Christ for our salvation 4) Just as the call to come into the ark was for a limited time, so the call to come to Christ will not continue forever 5) Just as the coming of the flood was unexpected, so will be the second coming of Christ

The Bible does not gloss over the sins and failures of key figures, and Abraham is no exception. Genesis 22 happily represents the triumph of his faith expressed in his obedience to God's command to sacrifice his son Isaac, the one through whom all of God's promises would be fulfilled. In this account, we see Abraham's resolute manner as he prepares for the journey that leads him to the land of Moriah, where Isaac will be offered as a sacrifice. In a more subtle way, we see Isaac's willing participation and shared faith with Abraham that God will raise him from the dead. The true hero of the story, though, is God Himself, seen in the marvelously prophetic utterance of Abraham, "God will provide for Himself the lamb" (Genesis 22:8), which speaks of God the Father's resolve to save undeserving sinners, and the willing sacrifice and obedience of our Lord Jesus Christ, perhaps on the exact same hill about two thousand years later, when He was the final and perfect Lamb of God.
