Thoughts on today’s draw for the Rowdies.
Having established a division one team on the women’s side as well as a youth system for both boys and girls Fort Lauderdale United is now tackling the professional game on the men’s side.
I give my thoughts on the club itself, the build out the marketing and of course very importantly, the South Florida market and how fertile it is for even more professional teams.
A packed show as we review the match we were both at in St Petersburg between Tampa Bay and Miami FC, talk about other results around the state (FC Naples wins a HUGE victory over Charleston, Fort Lauderdale and the Tampa Bay Sun both have costly USL Super League losses) and have an extended discussion about the future of the Tampa Bay Rowdies due to the likely need to vacate Al Lang Stadium after 2028. Ah the old Hillsborough v Pinellas debate…
This is the first of a series of video about the Tampa Bay Rowdies 50th Anniversary. This one focuses on how Floridians began to play and love Soccer thanks To the Rowdies success between 1975 and 1979. And how the club’s presence and legacy grew the game in other parts of the state as well.
The USL Jäegermeister Cup might be a key competition to fostering local rivalries. After speaking to so many people last night about the importance of the Tampa Bay V Fort Lauderdale rivalry to the sport’s development in this state , it felt good to see Miami FC perhaps beginning to develop a similar rivalry with Tampa Bay after many fall starts and seeming indifference.
Also congratulations to FC Naples on their stunning victory over the Charleston Battery!
Will do a full match review when I return to south Florida - quick video recap of a special anniversary night where I was able see so many old friends and witness a Bill Hamid penalty masterclass.
Kartik and James are back and unpack the week that was.
Tampa Bay lost again on Saturday night, 2 to 1 at Al Lang Stadium against arch-rival Louisville City.
This performance was better than the last three matches Tampa Bay has played, but we’re still not up to the standard we expect from a club that was as good as any at this level between 2020 and mid 2024.
Kartik flies solo for this short episode to give his impressions of FC Naples, seeing them in person for the first time and discusses whether the Rowdies are making any progress going forward. He also lauds the professionalism of FC Naples in its first season as Southwest Florida’s first ever professional soccer team.
