• 恰恰相反，…… — Quite the opposite — overturns the expectation just raised. Sharper than 但是, and used here to land the essay's main point.

• 与其说是……，不如说是…… — Rather than calling it A, call it B — a reframing move. It is how the essay lands its final point about what was really being voted on.
