It's the off-season, and we're trying some new things, starting with our first ever podcast guest! You likely know our guest Rob Colling by his Twitter handle, @skatingmusicguy, and he's here to join us for a lengthy discussion of the ins and outs of creating the music accompanying your favourite skating programs. We discuss some of the dos and don'ts for picking music that works well in an arena, how hard it is to find music that fits the many requirements for ice dance, and speculate on what music we might be hearing in the upcoming season's Rhythm Dance.

The season draws to a close with the World Team Trophy, and we test out a new way of recapping the event as we discuss Shoma Uno's crazy combination attempt, the increased jumping prowess on display in the ladies event, and other ways that a team competition could work and properly reflect strength across disciplines.

The depth in ice dance was insane at this year's World Championships, and we try to break down the minute differences that decided who was on the podium, how skaters from countries outside of the top ten at Worlds can break that barrier, and which teams need to break out of their comfort zone program-wise to continue to improve next season.

The ladies event at the World Championships was a dramatic one in a variety of ways, and we consider whether a new era of quads and triple Axels has emerged in ladies skating, why the Japanese ladies might have struggled to get on the podium at their home Worlds, and relate our excitement over strong comeback skates from a number of skaters with injuries and setbacks earlier in the season.

The pairs event at the World Championships was yet another small but mighty event, and we use this opportunity to gush more about Sui and Han, about our love for the best Russian and Chinese pairs skating has to offer, and speculate on how these teams can best pick their programs and music for next season.

The men closed out the competition at Worlds, and they did so with some fantastic skates, including consecutive world records. We discuss our awe with Nathan Chen's ability to balance school and skating, how many skaters struggles to perform at their peak through injury, and why not paying attention to jump math can turn an okay skate into a disastrous one.

We conclude our recap of the Junior World Championships with the ladies, and we discuss how the Russian ladies have a whole lot of jump math to do when adding in quads and difficult combinations, our heartbreak over +COMBOs by our favourites in the short program, and which skaters might benefit from a half junior/half senior season next year.

There was a somewhat small field of pairs at the Junior World Championships, but lots to get excited about as we gush about just how strong the Russian pairs are, and discuss some exciting young pairs from smaller federations, and why it's so important that these young teams stick together even through the hard times.

Junior men's events are always volatile, and this year's Junior World Championship was no different. We try to explain why the short programs can be so strong when the free skates are a mess, why attempting fewer quads might be the best strategy for junior men, and whether the ISU should consider limiting quad attempts for juniors.

We enjoyed ice dance the most out of all disciplines at the 2019 Junior World Championships, and we discuss one of our favourite dance programs of the season, our favourite male junior ice dancer, and discuss why the second half of the Argentine Tango pattern is so hard and can (literally) trip up so many teams.
