In addition to the Penguins riding a 6 game winning streak right now, I am extra excited for today's episode because we've got a fantastic guest on the podcast, to give us a deeper look inside the Devils' locker room and recent performance: Please welcome to Fly Penguins Fly, Matt Kass!

Matt is a staff writer for the PHF's Metropolitan Riveters, in addition to some other cool work he does and has done in the greater hockey universe. Here are some links to his work, including his position working with the awesome merchandising outfit Foco:

It's been a weird week around the NHL. Games have been suspended through Xmas for a few teams, but so far so good (knock on wood) for the Pens. Tonight, the Sabres come to town looking to cap off a breakneck road trip with a third straight victory. The Pens look to continue their own hot streak, currently on a 5-game tear themselves.

Mayor Quimby offers an intergalactic greeting and I briefly discuss tonight's game versus the Habs before focusing in on some thoughtful comments from HCMS in a presser he did this morning.

Happy Birthday to my wonderful wife, Ashley :)

Fly Penguins Fly Episode 22: The Penguins get a visit from the Anaheim Ducks. Follow @flypenguinsfly on Instagram!

Tonight is the back half of a back-to-back for the Penguins, beating the mighty Washington Capitals last night in D.C., 4-2. This evening will mark the debut of the dazzling primary-black Third Jerseys featuring the gold diagonal "P-I-T-T-S-B-U-R-G-H" lettering on the front, skating penguins on the shoulders, and throwback striping on the sleeves. Very slick.

Without the red-hot Jake Guentzel in the lineup tonight (upper-body injury, week-to-week), can the Penguins withstand the  offensive onslaught Washington is capable of bringing to the rink? I think the Penguins can get at least a point in this one. Sid Crosby (whose name, miraculously, I don't think I mentioned ONCE in today's episode - I hope you'll still listen...) is looking worlds better than he did in his last game against the Caps, plus lineup changes from coach Sullivan have the squad humming like something more akin to a finely tuned automobile engine. This promises to be a good game.

This is the first time the Penguins will see the Kraken in person, though they're by no means unfamiliar with the players on Seattle's roster. Names like Oleksiak and Tanev have been sewn onto the backs of Seattle jerseys, and those jerseys will be worn on the ice in Seattle TONIGHT by humans of those very namesakes... you get the idea. :)  In today's episode we'll hear from Jake Guentzel, head coach Mike Sullivan, and newly-minted fourth-line center, Garden State native, Drew O'Connor.

Fly Penguins Fly Episode 19: The Penguins visit the Vancouver Canucks. Follow @flypenguinsfly on Instagram!

Tonight, in the thick of a not-insignificant swing through western Canada, the Penguins look to grab a couple points from from a Vancouver team that's walking with a bit of a limp. Same goalie matchup as last time, British Columbia's own Tristan Jarry vs. California native Thatcher Demko.  Guentzel looks to extend a career-high 11-game scoring streak, Crosby looks to build on his ...build-back-better-build-back, Heinen hopes to seize on an opportunity and Kapanen ... well I just can't wait to see what happens as Kappy joins Teddy's third line.

Tonight the Penguins are 154km north of Red Deer, AB for their first matchup of the regular season against the Leon and Connor Show aka the Oilers.  Dave Tippet promised in his press availability today that this evening's game would be 'entertaining.' Let's see what comes of that prediction, and whether the Pens' head coach, Mike Sullivan has ideas of his own. How will he handle the NHL's current hottest talents in McDavid and Draisaitl? Can our goaltender and saviour between the pipes, Canada's own Tristan Jarry continue his absolute reign of excellence in net?

Tristan Jarry is this week's 2nd Star in the NHL! Way to go, #35...

The Flames and the Penguins come into tonight's 9pm Eastern matchup with similar recent records. Both teams' starting goalies are red hot, both teams boast elite PK units, and the Penguins' power play is finally gelling - which is great, because the Flames have one of the best PP1's in the NHL.
