1. South Korea and Japan held a so-called, two-plus-two meeting, a joint meeting of senior diplomats and defense director generals on Monday to discuss security cooperation in the region against the backdrop of North Korea’s escalating threats.
2. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Saturday visited a port in Wakayama to support the ruling party's candidate in a local election during which what appeared to be a smoke bomb was thrown at him.
3. South Korean prosecutors on Monday started investigating suspicions that more than 20 envelopes containing cash worth 94 million won, or roughly $72,000, were distributed to the members of the then ruling Democratic Party of Korea to make then-lawmaker Song Yong-gil be elected as the party chair during its national convention in May 2021.
