1.Lee Sang-in, acting chief of South Korea's state broadcasting regulator, voluntarily stepped down Friday ahead of the National Assembly's planned vote on his impeachment motion. With Lee's resignation, the Korea Communications Commission is now left without any standing members.
2.Seoul's foreign ministry said Friday that Japan's former gold mine, associated with South Korea's wartime forced labor, is expected to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site over the weekend.
3.The opening ceremony for the 33rd Summer Olympics in Paris is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday local time, or 2:30 a.m. Saturday in South Korea. It will be the first opening ceremony in history to take place outside a stadium. South Korea has sent 143 athletes in 21 out of 32 sports.
