1.The Joint Chiefs of Staff said Monday that South Korea and the United States will begin the annual Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise from August 19th to 29th to strengthen their joint defense readiness in the face of evolving North Korean military threats.
2.President Yoon Suk Yeol on Monday named Presidential Security Service chief Kim Yong-hyun as the new defense minister, while Defense Minister Shin Won-sik was named as new national security adviser. National security adviser Chang Ho-jin was named as special adviser for foreign affairs and security, a newly created post.
3.Moscow and Kyiv accused each other of starting a fire on the grounds of Europe's largest and now Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine on Sunday, with both sides reporting no sign of elevated radiation.
