1. North Korea’s state-run KCNA reported Tuesday that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for bolstering naval forces. Kim visited the country’s navy command Sunday ahead of Navy Day, and stressed the navy should become a component of the country’s nuclear deterrence.
2. South Korea announced Tuesday its plan to seek a 656-point-9 trillion won, or roughly 495 billion U.S. dollar, budget for 2024. This is a 2-point-8 percent increase from the amount allocated for this year, and marks the lowest on-year rise since 2005 amid declining tax revenue and economic uncertainties.
3. The Korea Meteorological Administration said Tuesday that rain is expected nationwide until Wednesday as three typhoons are on course to pass waters near China and Japan. While the typhoons are expected to have no direct influence on the peninsula, their proximity may bring heavy rainstorms.
