We spoke in the previous episode (Episode 266) about being intentional, or purposeful in how we live. Paul goes on to use a sharp word as the opposite of living with intention: foolishness. If we blow our life, living for ourself instead of being careful, and intentional in how we walk, we are foolish. Many people, myself included search for God's will for their life. We want to know if it's God's will that we take a particular job.
Paul says we can avoid being foolish by understanding God's will. Have you ever struggled with that question? First, why is that important? We know that when something is created, the one who created it had a purpose. There was an intent. You were created for a reason. It sounds a little circular, but some of that reason is to have a relationship with God. He wants us to know him and understand him. Following what we do know is the first part of that purpose.

The First Gift
God gives us gifts endlessly. Some are harder to see than others but the first gift He gave us is the gift of Life. We all know that we are supported by our physical, mental, and spiritual health. By following God, we tend to focus on the latter two support systems. Daryl wants to make sure that we don't forget that our body is the only one we have. To neglect this is to neglect God and we want to be fully serving him in everything that we do. How have you lived through God by taking care of your physical body? Do you neglect the physical gifts God gave you? Time to start paying attention! Daryl speaks to the first gift and why he has become a part of the Kingdom Runners crew that started during the Pandemic
Looking at Faith Through the Lens of Athletics
The Bible speaks to us in all forms, not just one. This is why it is so important to understand the word of God because it has many purposes. One of the key points Daryl speaks to in today's interview is looking at the word of God through an athletic lens. For example, Endurance. What does God have to say about enduring our demons, our obstacles, and our struggles to build a better path to him? This is just one example of many found in His word. Have you ever looked at God's teachings through this lens before? I know I haven't. It was eye-opening to learn that we can apply God's word to everything we need to do, and that includes becoming stronger and living our life as long as we can!
Interview Quote
"That is the first gift, the gift of live, the gift of breadth. It is our part to keep this body in the best shape we can. I believe that we need to take care of this body if we want to finish the race strong."

Do you hope to hear Jesus tell you, "Well done good and faithful servant," when you get to heaven? I do. When we examine this passage, though, we find little direction for exactly how to earn that accolade. Jesus wants us to go and trade our talent, our skills, our abilities, our who-we-are in the world. He will produce the result. We are good and faithful when we allow Jesus to direct how we trade the gifts He has given us in the world.

As we bear down on the US elections, let's consider our response to authority. Yesterday we spoke about how we respect those who are our bosses, or those who put constraints on us. Today, let's talk about what it means to follow Christ and not show respect for those in governmental authority, especially in the US.
We show respect for those in authority over us because we trust God. Imagine being able to trust God to the point where we let someone else nail us to a cross and kill us. Could you do trust God to that extent? That's what Jesus did. He is a member of the Trinity. So, if you're like me, you almost make an exception for him. However, our world needs me to trust Jesus more than I often do. Our world needs me to trust him enough to be "for" those in political office. Even more so in a nation "of the people and by the people."
As an American, I often remember "for the people." I don't want to remember "of" or "by," because that means work for me. However, when Paul wrote this, even Roman "citizens" didn't have anything like the rights we have. They couldn't choose their leaders. And the non-Romans were even worse off. Yet Paul still tells them and us to "submit" or "be subject" to those in authority.
Why? Because there is no authority except from God, or except that which God has established. In my mind, Paul is telling us that even our political authorities are established by God. In Proverbs 16:33 says that the lot is cast, but it's decision is from God. God will not be surprised or disappointed by the outcome of this election. Yes, we should vote in an informed manner for those who most align with what we think Jesus would want. But in the end, we must respect and submit to the outcome because we trust God and we know he is sovereign. He is in total control.
I hope I can trust Jesus more every day. That means I need to pray for our elected officials and our appointed ones because God put them in their positions and my submission glorifies Him.
Thank you for being a marketplace minister. Your life matters. How you act and what you say matters. When you serve others because you follow Jesus, it counts forever. Mission Trip 2-5 - Your life proves who you believe Jesus to be. Often though, we choose our actions based on subconscious habit. Our habits power most of our decisions every day. Part of the struggle of being a Follower of Jesus is that we must retrain our own habits. That's why we practice knowing what we believe in the 3rd daily activity and it's why we realize we must be a good steward of our story. We talk about remembering your "Why?"
Think about why you follow Jesus. Make sure you have a sensible reason based on your beliefs for your actions. What we give away matters. As we give prayer, appreciation and service to our coworkers, customers and vendors, people will ask. Make sure you're ready to explain your actions based on your history with Jesus. This is the most important question for each of us. "Who do you say Jesus is?"
If you think of Jesus as the active, living God of the universe, and you choose to listen to him, then do the things that break your old fleshly habits. Make new habits by intentionally giving more and intentionally serving more, and putting others ahead of yourself. Go the extra mile to join our online community where you can get others to help you focus on giving rather than receiving. Subscribe to this podcast where we will remind you every workday to get outside of your job description. Make a regular contribution to Follower of One so we can help you and others practice and grow as someone who lives and shares a new story based on who Jesus is.

Here it is. A reference to our ministry. I struggle with the term full-time minister and full-time ministry. Because I have to earn my living from our economic process, I was never in a good position to quit my job. I could never get a church to hire me anyway. But the term full-time minister simply implied that I was part-time. And I've never liked the idea of being part-time in my faith.
This passage says that God reconciled us and then he gave us the ministry of reconciliation. There you have it. You're a minister. We've talked before about how the Greek word often translated minister can also be translated service or servant. God gave us the service of reconciliation. You're a minister.
This is talking about how we are reconciled to Jesus. In verse 19, he says that our trespasses are not counted against us. Jesus paid for our sin. Oswald Chambers said that we don't go to hell for the bad things we've done. We go to hell because we don't trust Jesus. God's side of the reconciliation is done. All we need to do now is help others trust Jesus. That is the ministry of reconciliation.
However, I don't think it is any accident that reconciliation, not compromise, but a win-win reconciliation between people also seems to be what our world needs. During this political season let's be reconcilers - people who look for win-win situations rather than win-lose or lose-lose situations. Let's try to find ways to demonstrate to our friends on differing points in the political spectrum, that we all need something bigger than our own opinions. We need a Savior. Let's practice living that life instead of just talking about it too.
Thanks for being a minister of reconciliation. Check out the Marketplace Mission Trip at MarketplaceMissionTrip.com to learn more about our 2-week boot-camp to practice our ministry of reconciliation on the mission field where we work and live.
