  • When Your Soul Is Dry - Proverbs 9
    # Ever catch yourself irritable or restless for no clear reason—like something deep inside just… isn't quite right? The Bible calls that the hunger and thirst of the soul, and learning to discern it is one of the most important wisdom principles you can learn. It's the key to… * Finding satisfaction in life * Loving God with your soul * Gaining long-term victory over temptation * Understanding why bad moods come out of nowhere Why does Proverbs 9 describe wisdom as a meal instead of the familiar image of two paths? In this message, you'll discover that God intentionally chose the metaphor of food and drink because your deepest spiritual struggles are not merely decision-making problems—they're hunger problems. Every human soul thirsts for satisfaction, and when we fail to recognize that thirst, we instinctively reach for counterfeit "bread" that can never truly satisfy. In this expository sermon through **Proverbs 9**, you'll learn: * Why your soul experiences spiritual hunger and thirst * How to recognize soul-thirst before it drives destructive choices * Why irritability, discouragement, anxiety, and restlessness are often symptoms of spiritual dehydration * What the Bible means when it calls God the Bread of Life and Living Water * Why worldly pleasures can never permanently satisfy the human soul * The biblical secret to overcoming temptation through stronger desires instead of stronger willpower * What it really means to love God with all your soul * How to experience God's presence as true food and drink by trusting his promises

  • Arise And Eat
In 1 Kings 19, Elijah lies under a juniper tree exhausted, discouraged, and ready to quit. The Lord does not abandon him; He provides rest, food, and renewed strength for the journey ahead. In "Arise And Eat," Trever Arnold, with Calvary Baptist Church of Evening Shade, AR, points weary listeners to God's faithful care when their strength is gone. This message reminds us that the God who met Elijah in weakness still strengthens His servants for the road He has given them to walk.

  • Living for God's Glory...While We Can
This sermon explores the certainty of death and the mystery of God's sovereign providence through a continuous exposition of Ecclesiastes 8:16 to 9:12. The preacher emphasizes that human knowledge is limited and that life outcomes are often unpredictable, yet God remains in complete control. Recognizing death as an inevitable consequence of sin, the text urges believers not to despair but to find joy in the good gifts God provides, such as food, work, and relationships. By anchoring hope in Christ's victory over death, Christians are called to live gratefully and faithfully, using their remaining time to glorify God and enjoy His blessings until they are called home.

  • The Tree of Life
Trees are associated in Scripture with the gift of life, God's provision for His people, and their worship of Him and dwelling with Him. Man misuses God's good gift for idolatrous purposes, but in the end, Christ, the Author of Life, died on a tree to give His people everlasting life, so that we might live with Him forever in Paradise.

  • Table Manners Part 2
PM sermons are preceded by a Confessional, Catechism, Historic Creed lesson, or a lesson from the NT (Usually 5 minutes or so) WLC Q177: Wherein do the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's supper differ? A177: The sacraments of baptism and the Lord's supper differ, in that baptism is to be administered but once, with water, to be a sign and seal of our regeneration and ingrafting into Christ, and that even to infants; whereas the Lord's supper is to be administered often, in the elements of bread and wine, to represent and exhibit Christ as spiritual nourishment to the soul, and to confirm our continuance and growth in him, and that only to such as are of years and ability to examine themselves. 1 Cor 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, 2 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. 5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. 6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. 7 And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play." 8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell; 9 nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer....

  • Peter's Vision
In this evening sermon from Acts 10:9-23, Pastor Rockhill considers the vision God gave to the Apostle Peter upon the rooftop of Simon the Tanner. As Peter prays and grows hungry, he falls into a trance and beholds a great sheet let down from heaven filled with clean and unclean animals, hearing the command to rise, kill, and eat. Though Peter resists, the Lord declares three times that what God has cleansed he must not call common. Pastor Rockhill's central burden is to show how the Lord was preparing not only Cornelius but the church itself for the ingathering of the Gentiles. He explains that the vision overturns the Old Covenant dietary restrictions and the whole ceremonial system, for Christ has cleansed all defilement by his once-for-all sacrifice and has conquered the curse of death. The believer now enjoys true Christian liberty, receiving every good gift with thanksgiving to the glory of God. More than food is in view, however. Pastor Rockhill draws upon Ephesians 2 to declare that the middle wall of separation between Jew and Gentile has been broken down, so that the two are made one new man in Christ. What God has cleansed, no one may call common—including those once counted outside the covenant. Applying the text, Pastor Rockhill reminds the congregation that as the gospel expands, things change for good, as God gathers people from every nation, tribe, and tongue. He calls the saints to reflect this reconciling grace, receiving one another and showing hospitality as Peter welcomed the men sent from Cornelius.
