  • The 7 Churches - Thyatira
This sermon examines the letter to the church in Thyatira, highlighting the tension between their commendable works of charity and service and the severe error of tolerating a false teacher likened to Jezebel. The central theological argument asserts that this 'Jezebel' represents a woman who usurps authority by teaching in the church, violating the biblical mandate for women to learn in silence and not to hold authority over men, as established in 1 Timothy and 1 Corinthians. The preacher identifies her doctrine as promoting fornication and the consumption of food sacrificed to idols, equating these acts with spiritual adultery and fellowship with devils. Drawing on the Old Testament narrative of Jezebel's influence over King Ahab, the message warns that such corruption can destroy a church despite its outward good works. The sermon concludes with a call to repentance, urging believers to hold fast to sound doctrine and reject the 'depths of Satan' to avoid divine judgment.

  • The Teachings of Demons
This sermon examines the warning in 1 Timothy 4 regarding false teachings that arise in the last days, specifically focusing on the prohibition of marriage and the mandated abstinence from foods. The message argues that such doctrines are demonic in origin because they contradict God's declaration that all creation is good and to be received with thanksgiving. By citing historical examples like the Roman Catholic priesthood and various ascetic movements, the text illustrates how legalistic requirements can function as a form of deception that denies the goodness of God's design. The central theological point is that while individual conscience and voluntary self-denial are permissible, imposing these restrictions as binding law on the church constitutes a lie that stems from the father of lies. The sermon concludes by urging believers to guard against these deceitful spirits and to affirm the holiness of God's creation through prayer and gratitude.

  • The End Is Near—But What Does Near Mean? Mark 13:28-31
What did Jesus mean when He said, "When you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door"—while only a few verses later saying that no one knows the day or hour? In this in-depth expository sermon on Mark 13:28–31, we examine Jesus' parable of the fig tree and the meaning of His statement that His coming is "near." What does "near" actually mean? Can Christians know when Christ will return? What is the significance of the fig tree, summer, harvest, judgment, and the phrase "this generation will certainly not pass away"? Rather than trying to calculate the date of Christ's return, Jesus calls His followers to something deeper: certainty, readiness, encouragement, and confidence in His word If you enjoy the episode, please consider subscribing to the podcast and leaving a 5-stars rating. Since childhood, I've been drawn to the beauty and power of expository preaching—opening Scripture verse by verse and applying it to real life. After graduating from Moody Bible Institute, I spent the next 27 years serving as a youth pastor, senior pastor, church planter, and host of the Food For Your Soul radio broadcast. Along the way, I also earned a Master of Sacred Literature and a Doctor of Religious Studies. For more content from D. Richard Ferguson, visit TreasuringGod.com. • Manna in the Wilderness
This was one of the most important events in Jesus' ministry. It is, in fact, the only miracle recorded in all four gospels. The gospel of John essentially gives it a full chapter, connecting it directly to Jesus' "I am the bread of life" discourse. Luke has a much shorter version, but as we will see, this miracle is still utterly profound. Even when you don't highlight the connection between this feeding and the Lord's Supper, the connections to the kingdom of God, the wilderness and the Exodus, and to our basic human need to eat and be satisfied are full of rich spiritual nourishment for us. This morning, by the grace of God I will show you that Jesus is the king who feeds His people, even in the wilderness.
