In the Championship, our panel of Stuart Rayner, Leon Wobschall and host Mark Singleton assess the contrasting starts to the 24-25 campaign for Sheffield United and Hull City after their derby date, plus the late frustration for Sheffield Wednesday in their meeting at Hillsborough with QPR. 

Barnsley suffered bad trips on the road at Stevenage and then, in the League Cup, at Manchester United, leaving Darrell Clarke increasingly frustrated with his team.

Lee Carsley had a promising start to life as England’s interim manager as the national team moved on from the Gareth Southgate era. Stuart Rayner was at Wembley for the Nations League over Finland and, along with Leon Wobschall, assesses both that performance and the win in Dublin over the Republic of Ireland on Saturday.

The team then turn their attention to the EFL and the handful of Yorkshire teams in action, starting with Barnsley ending their wait for a home win at Oakwell. 

They also cast an eye over our three teams in League Two, Doncaster Rovers and Bradford City both enjoying weekend wins, while the early-season frustrations continued for Harrogate Town at Cheltenham Town.

As we near the end of the first month of action in the EFL, football writers Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall assess the story so far for a number of our teams, starting with Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday, whose meeting last weekend produced a comfortable win for the Whites.

They also turn their attention to a tough start to the season for Hull City under Tim Walter, contrasted by the 100 per cent start to life in League One for Huddersfield Town under Michael Duff.

The appointment of Darrell Clarke as Barnsley’s new boss also comes up for discussion, as does the best way for Sheffield Wednesday to keep head coach Danny Rohl sweet over the coming months after the two came to agreement on his future at Hillsborough.

They also consider the positives Sheffield United can take into the summer and the big job that lies ahead for boss Chris Wilder following an extremely tough Premier League campaign which – some time ago – resulted in their instant return to The Championship. 

Ahead of Thursday night’s Championship play-off semi-final second leg at Elland Road between Leeds United and Norwich City, our panel look at the Whites’ chances of making it through to Wembley. 

Lastly, we salute the remarkable run to the League Two play-offs made by Doncaster Rovers before their promotion hopes were dashed when losing their semi-final encounter against Crewe Alexandra on a penalty shoot-out.
