How'd We Get Here?: Understanding where we came from is critical to understanding where we are going in life. This is a remarkably important month in the history of Christianity. It was 500 years ago this month that a young priest in Germany found an extraordinary amount of courage to lead a protest movement against the rulers the of church in the day. This protest movement became the seeds of a larger movement we today call the Reformation. Kyle Jantzen from Ambrose University will help us better understand Martin Luther and what happened in Germany and how it continues to shape us today. This Is Us - Acts 14:21-28: “We're expecting.” Few words have the power to change your life more than these two! The three times Joyce said those words to me have left an indelible memory on my heart. There is just something really fantastic about new life. We're pretty excited to announce this weekend that we as a church are expecting! A brand new daughter church is on the way and we get to tell you a little bit about her this weekend. Even more importantly, we get to tell you why this is so important to us all, whether you'll be a part of this new venture or not. This might well be the most exciting and impactful thing we do this decade and we want to consider why we believe this to be true. This Is Us - Luke 17:11-19: In one of Aesop's grand fables, he tells the story of Androcles and the Lion (look it up!) and the moral to that story is that “gratitude is the sign of a noble soul.” We are rarely better than when we are living life with a deep sense of gratitude to God and the people God brings across our lives. This Thanksgiving weekend, we will gather around the Eucharist table, a table of thanksgiving, and take time to remember all we have to be grateful for. There will be some beautiful and compelling aspects of our service that will reach deep into your soul and will evoke a response of gratitude. This Is Us - Luke 9:23-26: This is Us! We are a people who Know God, Love Others, Reach Neighbors and Serve the World. This weekend we come to the end of our biblical reflection on who we have discerned God wants us to be and what we understand God wants us to do. 'Serving the World' sounds good, but sometimes we get caught up in our culture's value of consumerism; we want to know what's in it for us. Jesus reminds us that our ultimate life comes not from self-service but from “taking up our cross daily” and joining him who has Called us to Serve the World! Join us this weekend, you'll be glad that you came!

This Is Us - 2 Cor 5: 11-21: Compelled by love. When was the last time that you knew that love was driving your day? All the decisions and relationships you have run through a filter. Is that filter love? Love for God and love for others is our calling and Shaila will share with us how to live out of this place of love that impacts others around us. Shaila Visser is compelled by love for other people. She has lived her life serving in vocational ministry aiming to introduce as many people as she can to Jesus. Shaila is the National Director of Alpha Canada and a member of the Alpha Global Exec. She has Executively Produced the Alpha Youth Film Series and the Alpha Film Series. This Is Us - Philemon 1:1-25: Last weekend I invited you to share prayer requests with us, and over 800 prayer requests were submitted! What a privilege it has been to pray with you and for you this week as a leadership community. Many of the requests brought tears to my eyes … we're all on a journey and we all have a story. One that particularly saddened me was the person who wrote as their request “for someone to know my name at this church.” We need more than just to be known by name … we all need someone who knows our story and shares in the beautiful, sacred, complicated, crazy journey we call life. This weekend we'll visit a powerful story in the New Testament from a book called Philemon and we'll remember again what authentic biblical community looks like and how we might both experience and extend it. This will be an incredibly important weekend for our church family … when you get here, make sure to put on a nametag and meet someone new! I so look forward to being with you!

This Is Us - Luke 11:1-13: So the centered life. We pay so much attention to the outer world often at the neglect of our inner lives. God is so passionate about the inner dimension of our lives that He sent us His Holy Spirit to govern this integral part of who we are. As we figure out who we are and what we're about, we need to begin at the center. Our Transforming Journey and the values that we hold begin with Knowing God, and that's how we're starting this new series. We're so excited to dive into the full life of church again this weekend, and look forward to tending to the soul. Can't wait to see you on the weekend!

Unconventional Wisdom - Prov 3:5-6 (14:12/28:14): One of the certainties of life is uncertainty. Despite our best plans, life takes all kinds of unexpected and disorienting twists and turns. How do we move forward when the way seems so clouded? We trust God. This weekend we will conclude our series on Unconventional Wisdom, our study in the book of Proverbs, by exploring the often quoted verses of Proverbs 3:5-6. Wisdom tells us how to navigate the complexities of life by trusting God with all our hearts, not leaning on our own understanding, acknowledging God in all our ways and then walking the clear path God will create. Unconventional Wisdom - Prov 31:10-31: Family first. Looks good on paper, sounds good to the ear … but what does it really mean? We could be the greatest people at our jobs or in our schools or communities, but if coming home at the end of the day isn't the best part of the day, then we've missed something. This weekend, we'll focus on what the Proverbs have to say about home. I know this is a painful and complicated subject for many of us, but this weekend will be encouraging and inspiring! I promise! We'll also gather as a family around the table Jesus taught us about. I so look forward to being together with you!

Unconventional Wisdom - Prov 18:21; 12:18; 14:31; 15:1;: Grace and kindness." I reminded my kids about 6, 429 times that this was the kind of speech that needed to come from their mouths when dealing with their siblings or parents. Every once in a while, I think they got it. But in some ways, my wisdom was flawed because grace and kindness doesn't just come from our mouths - it comes from our hearts. As our hearts are captured by Jesus' heart, the way we speak to each other is transformed. This week we'll visit many of the Proverbs that relate directly to our speech and we'll consider what it means to speak kindly; more importantly, we'll reflect on where that capacity truly comes from!
