Unconventional Wisdom - Proverbs 11: 1-4 (16:18; 28:13-14; 22:1): Who is someone you really want to be like when you “grow up?” If we each described the person we are thinking of right now, even though the descriptions would vary greatly, I bet there would be one thing they share: integrity. We naturally value men and women who are consistent, honest, and dependable. We admire those do what is right no matter the cost or who is, or isn't, looking. In Proverbs God calls us to be men and women of integrity. The call inspires us, but can also make us quake in our boots as we realize how far we have to go. Join us this weekend as we examine this high calling to Live the Truth and discover God's grace that enables us live into this calling.

Unconventional Wisdom - Proverbs 6:6-11: My name is Graham, and I am so excited to be visiting Foothills this week! I've just arrived from England and have had a great week at soccer camp with the young people. I founded an international ministry using soccer to reach lives for Christ, and I really enjoy using sports to show Christ's love. I am also a field representative for Capernwray Torchbearers International, where I have the privilege of lecturing in their bible schools across Europe and North America. This weekend we are going to talk about moving from slothfulness to life, and rising and shining in all areas of our lives. One of the greatest needs in our church today is the need for a spiritual awakening. Come join us this weekend as we look at areas in our lives that may need a wake-up call. Let's discover a life that shines the exciting indwelling life of Christ. Can't wait to meet you!

Unconventional Wisdom - Prov 15:1 (15:18): AHHHH!!! We all get that rush of anger from bad drivers to misbehaving _______ (plug in the appropriate family group here: parents, kids, grandparents, etc!) Some “Conventional Wisdom” tells us to keep a stiff upper lip and keep it all inside, while other “Conventional Wisdom” instructs us to LET IT ALL OUT! “Unconventional Wisdom” from Proverbs has practical guidance to empower us to mange our anger. And, to make our services even more enriching we will conclude our time together remembering the sacrifice of Christ through celebrating at the Communion table. Unconventional Wisdom - Prov 4:18-23 (6:20-35): We love being in control. Sometimes, it's hard to surrender the direction and control of our lives to God. We want to be people who pay attention to God and have the courage to listen and follow the call that He puts on our hearts, but it doesn't have to happen all at once and we don't have to pretend like it's easy all the time. Join us as we talk about what it means to invite God to direct our journey, and what it looks like to pay attention! Looking forward to hangin' with you this weekend! Unconventional Wisdom - Proverbs 3: 9-10 (28:20; 11:25): Sharing. It always sounds good in theory, especially when you want or need what someone else has! But what about when someone else thinks they want or need something from you? That's a little more complicated. Come and join us this weekend as we learn about “sharing the loot” that God has entrusted to us. We're going to have so much fun, and the message on learning to share is transformative for small kids and big kids too. I'm so looking forward to the weekend and who knows … there might even be a picture or two of the world's sweetest granddaughter from a proud Papa! Bless you all!

Unconventional Wisdom - Prov 3:3-4 (27:17; 17:5): Can you believe it? Stampede season is in full gallop! One of my favourite rodeo events to watch (never tried it personally!) is steer wrestling. Within a matter of seconds, a horse-mounted cowboy chases a steer, drops from the horse to the steer, then wrestles the steer to the ground by grabbing its horns and pulling it off-balance so that it falls to the ground. The event carries a high risk of injury to the cowboy. It's certainly not for the faint of heart, and is as difficult to pull off as it sounds. Sometimes I think getting a hold of the virtue of kindness is a little like steer wrestling. It seems a little elusive and a little hard to wrangle and pin down. Join us this weekend for a rootin' tootin' good time as we set out to rustle up some kindness!

Unconventional Wisdom - Prov 4:1-11; 29:18; 12:26: Happy Birthday Canada … and what better way could there be to celebrate than by coming to church this weekend! For we know the truth of Proverbs 14:34 that “godliness makes a nation great,” while “sin is a disgrace to any people.” We begin a summer series that really teaches us that honoring and following God makes a life great! We'll be settled in the Proverbs this summer, considering how these ancient truths transform modern souls. This weekend we'll consider the importance of pursuing wisdom and what happens when we do. The kids (K-6) will be with us in church and we've planned all kinds of fun things to engage them in the service. It will be a great start to the summer and I so look forward to being with you all! Be blessed and say a prayer for our beloved “true north, strong and free!”

Livin' the Life - Ephesians 1:3-14: I have a little notice on my office wall that reminds me of the seven unique roles I carry in life. I'm a follower of Jesus / husband / Dad / a friend / a leader / a preacher and a servant. I have a little mission statement for each role. For example, as a father my mission is this: “I resolve to pray for and nurture the personal growth of my children – seeking to model for them the wonder of knowing God and serving others." But even more important than each of these roles is trying to figure out my identity for who I am and how it must shape how I live and what I love. This weekend, we will explore further our identity as sons and daughters of God, because we'll never know how to live until we know who we are! This will be a very special weekend and I so look forward to being together!

Livin' the Life - Hebrews 12:1-3: Jesus said that anyone who wants to save their life would lose it, but anyone willing to lose their life for the sake of his Kingdom would find their real life; they will be livin' the life! Livin' the life that Jesus talked about doesn't happen accidentally… it happens intentionally! This type of intentional living is something that dads (you remember its Father's Day, right!?!) and others can use to demonstrate to those who look up to them as practices that can be imitated. A life that is imitable is one that is lived intentionally. Happy Father's Day!

Livin' the Life - Acts 2:42-27: Our world appears to be getting more complicated every time I watch the evening news. Our heads hurt, our hearts break, our minds are confused by the brokenness all around us. What would Jesus say if He was seated beside us? I think He might remind us of the last thing He ever said which reflects His greatest priority: “go into all the world and tell people just how much I love them.” Jesus is the hope of the world and the Church is the primary mechanism He's left us with to proclaim that message. This will be a weekend filled with hope as we tell the story of God building His Church here at Foothills. Four of our remarkable young adults will share stories of grace and growth from Cambodia, Africa and South America. It will be fantastic and I pray you'll come with an expectant heart because God is still pretty committed to building His Church here! Have a great weekend!
