For Screen and Country

Take some of the biggest stars of the day and send them on an adventure to destroy some guns?! Count us in! As a second world war rages, a group of disparate men with unique skills are assembled for one task: to destroy the Nazi naval guns on the Greek island of Navarone and save the lives of 2000 British soldiers. Can they do it? We hope so! Sad movies make us sad.

Next week: a fake documentary? Vietnam War found footage?

Welcome back and welcome back to the list! Since the Christmas season is over, prepare to get real depressed with the Japanese post-WWII film Fires on the Plain. The guys dive into this somber story about a tuberculosis-stricken soldier just trying to return to normalcy despite witnessing the worst kinds of humanity around him. Is this the saddest road movie ever? Did Brendan actually audibly wince at two particular scenes? What is the ultimate low? All this and more!

This week, the fellas go to ground in the Belorussian Forest and watch 2008's Defiance! From the twisted mind of Edward Zwick, the film follows the exploits of the Bielski brothers as they try to protect their fellow Jews from the machinations of the invading Nazis. Not content to simply stay alive, they form a working commuinity deep in the woods and aid the Soviets in the fight against fascism and genocide.

Next week: Brendan and Jason want to play a game. OF TRIVIA!

This week, the boys ask a question that has lived on through the annals of time...

IS THIS MOVIE A WAR MOVIE... OR IS THIS MOVIE NOT A WAR MOVIE?

The topic? 2014's Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. This major question kick-starts one of the biggest debates in podcast history but the guys also discuss the movie itself, don't you worry. They talk about the movie acting as a real-life videogame, playing with audience expectations of Tom Cruise, the improvised kiss and much more.

Next week: Daniel Craig has a funny accent.

Sorry about the relevancy of this week's episode...

This week, the boys talk about the mockumentary-style film C.S.A: Confederate States of America, a film that presents a kind-of Ken Burns-esque program in a world where the south had indeed won the Civil War. Why are the seemingly racist fake ads a lot more believable now? What was Canada's role in this altered American Civil War? Do the film clips remind your hosts of real films they've already covered on the show? All this and more!

Next week: IS THIS MOVIE A WAR MOVIE OR IS THIS MOVIE NOT A WAR MOVIE? Space Edition.
