This week, your hosts start to round the bend on this list as they discuss Mike Leigh's award-winning directorial effort Secrets & Lies, a film that asks questions about motherhood, family and race... but the latter is surprisingly the least discussed. The guys also talk the terrific one-scene characters, Mike Leigh's writing style allowing for more accurate representation of people of colour, how dangerous it is to bottle all your feelings up and more!
The guys also draw next week's movie out of a hat! What will it be? Join us, won't you?

Stand by your beliefs, hold strong and carry on! This week, the guys break down the Oscar-winning A Man for All Seasons detailing Thomas More's refusal to approve of Henry VIII's divorce and the repercussions that follow that. They break down the brief but powerful performances from Robert Shaw and Orson Welles, talk about why evangelical Christians (and the Vatican!) love this movie so much, they debate the merits of the cinematography, they discuss why the film works so well but could very easily fail with one false move... and more!

It's time to head back to the world of comedy one more time on this list with the British box office smash A Fish Called Wanda. How in the world did Kevin Kline shape his infamous and Oscar-winning performance as Wanda's narcissistic lover Otto? Does Michael Palin's portrayal of those affected by speech impediments hold up over time? This movie was going to be an even darker comedy at one point?! They also dive deep into the 'fish scene' and talk about what Kline was WILLING to do to make it work! All this and more in this week's episode - bon appetit.

What better way to follow up last week's raunchy comedy than with an epic profile of a complicated soldier in the Powell & Pressburger classic The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp. Does this movie take shots at the British army through the title character's unwavering committment to tradition and morality? How dangerous was it to talk about Germany's justified anger in 1943? Was this secretly a progressive film for women? And none of you will be shocked when you find out the idenity of the man being 'mocked' during this whole ordeal! Plus - more.

It's the moment you've all been waiting for... this week, Brendan and Jason FINALLY get to talk about Carry On Up the Khyber, the 16th in a series of 31 farcical comedies with a mostly-recurring cast. As per usual, the guys ask all the tough questions such as: is there a single person of colour in this film? Did this movie and others in the series inspire filmmakers like David Zucker? Is there a clear political message buried in all the silliness and decidedly politically incorrect humour? Does this have the most British ending to any movie covered on the podcast thus far!? This and more in this week's brand-new humdinger of an episode!

This week, the guys return to the list! This is the final Ealing Studios comedy on the list so the question is... will Jason finally genuinely like one of these a lot? Is there ever too many Alec Guinnesses or the more the merrier? What are the lead character's similarities to Patrick Bateman? And did they just say what I think they said in that one scene?! (we literally can't and don't want to type it out here)? Plus: it's an all-out directors brawl!

Closing up And Now for Something Completely Similar is the sequel to the Danny Boyle classic - T2 Trainspotting. Have Brendan and Jason FINALLY found a remake/sequel that comes close to living up to the original? How successful is the film at suddenly giving the psychotic Begbie some nuance and sympathy without it feeling hokey? Who is the newest and smartest character in the franchise? How honest is Renton as the narrator? Finally - does the shooting/editing style change and does it mature alongside the characters themselves?

Marching on, the guys take the time to dissect the American remake of Get Carter starring Sylvester Stallone... and Michael Caine still shows up anyway! The guys dive deep into this weird remake and ask the questions you all want to know the answers to like: what if Caine and Stallone switched careers? Why is Jack Carter a much nicer boy in this version? Has Michael Caine ever done an American accent for a film? Plus: they debate the quality of the soundtrack/music cues and Brendan tells his story about meeting Sylvester Stallone as a young lad.
Next week: The series concludes with a breakdown of 20-years-in-the-making sequel - T2 Trainspotting.

In a complete change from last week's episode, the 2016 remake of the 1949 Ealing Studios classic Whisky Galore is about as close as you can get to the original source material without being a blatant copy and paste job! Eddie Izzard finally gets some lines in a movie covered on this show but is it worth it and do they deliver!? What IS the perfect remake and what are the qualifications? Why wasn't Mrs. Waggett given her own film? And why this pointless subplot about a "red case" that ultimately ends up meaning nothing?
Next week: The series presses forward with the Sylvester Stallone (and co-starring original lead Michael Caine) remake of Get Carter.

The off-book series continues and your hosts welcome back Steve and Izzy of Everything I Learned from Movies to break down the 2003 remake of The Italian Job. After grilling their guests on their knowledge of New Brunswick customs, they all dive head-first into Edward Norton's contractually-obligated appearance, Seth Green's creepy character, sponsorship deals with the Mini Cooper and more. Plus: Jason talks about White Castle and they all get into a huge tangent about the differences between Americans and Canadians like a gaggle of stand-up comics.
