As we start out in our careers, most of us have a general idea of what kind of job we’d ideally like to have. Whether we’ve looked around and found someone else to emulate or simply have an ambition to pursue a certain field or industry position, there’s a general direction we feel we need to move in order to get there. The problem is, we can’t just step into those positions, those lives, immediately. We have to journey toward them step by step.

Shutterstock Today’s professionals glorify busy. But understandably: collectively, our busyness is responsible for most modern solutions. Individually, our booked calendars generate our everyday and lifelong progress, income and fulfillment. On the other hand, busyness can cause overwhelm, anxiety and low self-esteem: We feel like we’re doing everything but getting nothing done; we boast our busyness as a badge of importance, but deep down we feel useless.
