Who here has a difficult team member who they feel they just can’t build respect with?” Across the room, hands shot up. CEOs of large companies, HR leaders, small business owners, and mid-level managers: everyone raised their hands.

When considering a new job opportunity, our first instinct is oftento focus on the starting salary. But it’s also important to look at a job’s long-term potential. Some positions have high first-year pay but limited upward mobility. Others, like being a founding member of a startup, might pay no wages upfront but offer an outside chance of making millions through equity ownership.

Shutterstock I’ll be honest. For someone who’s such a big advocate of taking time off when you need to, I did a pretty bad job of it recently. In fact, when I came down with a cold recently, I tried to go to work (and made a lot of my colleagues pretty upset in the process).

Naturally, she challenged me when I told her there were countless employers out there actively recruiting for great talent. Cindy responded: “If they were really hiring, someone would have responded by now.” I explained to her that it’s just a matter of making the right moves so that you’re getting noticed.

Whatever your reason, you’re stubbornly loathe to delegate even the most basic or the most time-consuming of undertakings.
