Welcome back as we look at the questions nobody thought to ask about National Lampoon's Vacation. We find out more about the careers of the child actors that I could ever have imagined. BDA's (Beverly D'Angelo) history is so much more interesting than we would have figured. And we hit tangents on everything from Conan the Barbarian to Mr Mom.
Pull over, folks... Zack has never seen this movie. We watched the original Vacation from back in 1983. Hold on, this movie has 80s racism, jokes about gun violence, animal cruelty, policing in need of reform, a lady we know only as a classic holiday film mom whipping her boobs out, cigarette machines, Harold Ramis as the voice of a moose, Anthony Michael Hall, Chevy Chase being mostly likable, a custom car build to be specifically ugly American, and a variety of roadside set pieces all across the American Southwest.
We get a classic road trip comedy, with a surprising amount of similarity to the script of Planes, Trains and Automobiles and we have a blast going along with the family. We also see the groundwork set for arguably the more successful Christmas Vacation. Hot take... Is that the best sequel ever filmed?
Greetings everyone. Sorry for the silence for a few weeks. We hope your holidays were amazing, but if they were a nightmare like ours, we feel for you. Ours were full of overwork, family drama, sick pets, and another round of COVID-19. Nowhere to go but up from here.
Join us as we recap the questions no one thought to ask on Gremlins and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. We wrap up 2022 and look forward to a better 2023.
Welcome to our Holiday Season kickoff episode that is dropping on New Years. It is amazing how optimistic we are about how our work, life, and families are not going to be a living nightmare. Well, that didn't happen.
Anyhoo, come back with us to 1984 as we watch and discuss the Spielburg, Collumbus, Dante collaboration, Gremlins. This movie brings Zack back to so many specific places and times, but it is the first time Jenny has ever seen it. Join us as we talk about this classic small town holiday creature feature with one of the cutest puppets ever made.
Apologies if Zack gets a little excited, loud, and bawdy. This is just one that really hit a special place.
Welcome to the holiday season. We start off with the only Thanksgiving banger, Planes, Trains and Automobiles... yes we all noticed the missing comma. Welcome Steve Martin, John Candy, and John Hughes to the podcast. This week we discuss the movie that was not so much forbidden as told, you wouldn't like it.
We talk about how much as adults we absolutely loved this classic and can't wait to get deeper on it.
Welcome back to Going Deeper. This week we take a look at the questions nobody thought to ask on the 1990 film, Ghost. We look into the people involved in making it and discover it was one of the biggest movie hits of all time at the box office when it was released. We also look into newspapers and magazines from around when the movie came out to get a feel of what the world was like.
Tangents in this episode include converting the $80,000 that cost Swayze his life into Cryptocurrency, more about the life of Patrick Swayze, multiple true crime diversions, and a roller coaster of emotions over a porn bomb dropped on a nuclear plant just down the road from us.
Spooky season is officially over for the year. We have decided on a palate cleanser before we get into the holidays. As a nod to our recent trip to New Orleans and the multiple ghost encounters we have decided to go back to 1990 for the blockbuster film, Ghost. Patrick Swayze is at his shirtless best and Demi Moore joins Michael Douglas and Madonna in the Three Timers Club on our podcast. Have we mentioned the pottery wheel scene yet... whew... sexier than we even remember.
This movie rocks, go see it and then listen to our podcast. Please reach out to us on our socials and let us know your memories of the film and what you want to hear next.
We are back from our spooky New Orleans Halloween trip and ready to answer the questions that nobody thought to ask while watching Interview with a Vampire from 1994. We look at the culture and the box office of the day to see where this fit in. It turns out this episode is actually dropping on the 28th anniversary of this film hitting theaters, Happy Birthday!!!
Diversions and tangents abound. Some of my favorites are Zack and his vampire contacts, trying to remember Jenny's quote "tits to the chin", Jenny's laughter breakdown about a dark joke in a movie, and Zack actually being right about something when it comes to Diagnosis Murder.
Welcome to our spooky season wrap up. For this week we look at the movie that is Jenny's first forbidden experience. We wonder what our parents were up to during these times. We spend a lot of time talking about who the intended audience was for this movie and about the time of the mid 80s where we have lived for a while now. Welcome to the podcast Chris Sarandon and Roddy McDowell, 2 actors Zack loves but probably won't show up all that much on our forbidden lists. This one is a lot of fun, if you haven't had the chance check it out. Also check out Midnights and That Thing You Do.
Join us in October as we prepare for Halloween. This week we take a look at a classic that Zack remembers from being on a tape with a Batman Forever. We take a look at the nostalgia of having 3 movies on a tape that had nothing to do with each other. We remember rewinding and checking to see where we were on the VHS and coming upon something we were not meant to see.
The Forbidden Cinema journey is about excitement and longing and the sheer rush that comes with stumbling across something in the pre-internet world that was verbotten or above your station.
Jenny thinks back fondly to her parents buying her all the books and having them signed at book fairs having no idea what the hell they were doing.
