Imagine the mess of renovations at Forestview Church. You don't need to imagine . It is ever before us , right? But the promise of a building renewed and refreshed and very useful is compelling.

Such is the Sermon on the Mount. Reading through, we may wonder how can I ever be this kind of person?.... never anxious, never critical and judgmental, loving my enemies and praying for them, giving to the needy , totally in control of my anger, keeping on with my marriage to strengthen it rather than get out ? What a challenge. This is the renovation plan that God has for us as He changes our hearts . He welcomes us into His kingdom and describes the kind of life we can have, the life He invites us deeper into.This promise of renewal is quite compelling , even as we fail forward in the spiritual journey.

Our prayer as we complete this study of Jesus' sermon is this: O LORD, give us more and more tastes of your kingdom life. In all our weakness, form us as a people so that we live like this. May our families be transformed by Your presence. And may our church be the place where we meet with You, Jesus, and become more like You.

Sermon on the Mount

What would it have been like to actually SEE Jesus in the flesh, maybe sit on the hillside as He spoke out the Sermon on the Mount, hear His voice, see His smile and feel the intensity of His warm personal gaze?

OK, not quite possible for us, but this month we will be listening to the same Jesus and His words and thoughts, with the benefit of the same Holy Spirit . Our desire is to understand and embrace the kind of life He is offering, an amazing experience of God and His presence, in every part of life, the good the bad and the ugly. Jesus is offering this life to each one of us. Not one of us is too far off course.

He is saying that the Kingdom of God is available to us all, as we encounter Jesus and His truth, in the presence of others....sharing life together in community. In the midst of a large crowd of raw humanity, Jesus teaches that the presence of God and His kingdom is available here and now. This is about God and His activity, and His desire to bless us and be with us in all of life's circumstances.

This month has the incredible potential of bringing us all to greater spiritual transformation, together, in the presence of Jesus, for the sake of others. We are a community where people meet Jesus, and become more like Him. I am looking forward to this adventure together with you.See you on Sunday.

Marinating in Jesus and His words of life...

I trust your summer has gone well and you have seen the LORD at work, sustaining and refreshing you. As we launch into the fall at Forestview, we want to marinate in Jesus and His words from the Sermon on the Mount.We are a COMMUNITY where people MEET Jesus and BECOME more like Him. In Matthew 5-7, Jesus is asking us to consider who God is.....and what He desires for His people. Jesus ' message is that our God is a loving Father who cares about our hearts, and NOT just our external deeds or religious practice.

Jesus is actually inviting us into a way of life that is truly LIFE, a human flourishing life, life the way it was meant to be . This is a personal invitation from Jesus to reorient our values and vision of life, to deconstruct our old habits and ways of being, and refashion our lives by His teaching and model.Wow. Do I ever want this personally for myself, and for all of us here at Forestview.

We enter this new way of living, imitating Jesus . He fully trusts His Father in all things and introduces to the world around a fresh taste of the Kingdom of God. We want to do this too, fully trust God and live like Jesus, but we do this so IMPERFECTLY. True? So we see our deep need for God's grace and forgiveness as we keep moving forward together as followers /apprentices of Jesus Christ. We help one another to LOVE BETTER : love God and each other, and all of God's creation.

As kids go back to school, parents are asking, " How can I help my child believe the Gospel of Jesus, stay out of trouble, and live their life for Christ?" This fall we will consider our part in this: How will I live in front of my child so that they see an adult who is fully committed to Jesus and the Gospel, like I have put my full trust in God and His ways.....not perfection, but authentically an apprentice of Jesus Christ. You are warmly invited to join us on this JOURNEY.
