Broken and Becoming:

Following the Disciples to the Cross

Imagine that you were a disciple, following Jesus for 3 years, seeing His miracles, hearing His teaching, amazed at His compassion and grace towards people- and His anger at those who used religion to exert power over others. You are expecting a great overthrow of the religious powers, and most especially the political powers of Rome that dominated. A new King and Kingdom are here!

Instead, Jesus begins speaking of His death! Shock.

During Lent, we will walk with the disciples through the upside down leadership of Jesus and His message that He will be killed. They/We fail over and over (Broken), yet Jesus keeps forgiving and loving with amazing grace....and they/we begin to be formed more like Jesus in the process (Becoming). We see Jesus through the eyes of His disciples, and we see ourselves, as we move toward the cross.

We encourage you to read through some of the Bible passages below as you prepare your hearts for this journey. Perhaps this will spark some lively conversation around the dinner table.

March 17 - In Gethsemane, Matthew 26:36-56

March 24 - Peter rebukes Jesus, Matthew 16:21-28

March 31 - Transfiguration, Who will we listen to? Matthew 17:1-13

April 7 - Upside Down leadership, Matthew 20:20-28

April 14 - Palm Sunday, Sincere Worship, Matthew 21: 1-17

April 21 - Easter , What does the resurrection mean to us? John 20:1-9

So Paul writes that a new King has come. God rules. Jesus is LORD, and the truth about Jesus is the Good News, the Gospel.

Over these four weeks, we will lift up Jesus as we study the Book of Colossians. I encourage you to read the 4 chapters over and over, to yourself and to your family. The Holy Spirit is leading us deeper into understanding and life practice.

Moved - living the parables of Jesus

January 13th - February 3rd

Why did Jesus teach in parables?

We live in an age that loves new information, or info presented in new

and clever ways. Do we need to resist this current-day cult of

information? Why do we need - and often demand - more knowledge if

we are not actually applying the information we have?

Jesus' parables move us to ACTION.

God is pretty clear that He is looking for those who will hear His truth

and know His truth.....and then LIVE it out. Be doers of the word, and

not hearers only (James 1:22).

Through January , we will consider four of Jesus' parables, taking time to

reflect on His provocative stories, so as to move us into action. We

long for more of these transformative practices. Our last Sunday in this series will be

panel discussion to review what we're learning and applying, and to field

your questions.

You are very warmly invited to grow together with us all, as we are Moved by the

Story Teller.
