Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast

We talk a lot about the new Custodes this week and they seem pretty good.  They have a MUCH smaller footprint on some units but they picked up a few tricks in this release, and some beefcake new status, that should keep them in the spotlight.

Hey folks,

Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.  It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

We also started a Patreon for the FTN show.  This will help us a lot in the form of being able to hire an editor and a few other things.   If it is anywhere within your ability to support us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here.

There is a new unit or two hitting the dex and a few entries that are going to Legends.  It sucks to lose anything out off the play rotation but effectively I don’t think you will miss them.  With that said.. You might have to keep some of your existing models on the shelf because the units are shrinking a bit.  (a lot?)

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

You have a TON of detachments to choose  from in the book so that seems to be one of the hallmarks of this edition. I love that.  I say I love that, and I do… but does that mean that every army is going to be able to do everything?  That remains to be seen.  There is a lot of character and fun stuff packed into what we’ve seen so far.

This kinda feels like the Custodes going back to a super elite force that specialize in tactics that other armies wish they could pull off. You might get the sense again that each of these really is an army of 1 fighting on the battle field able to punch into anything.

We are so back, baby.  And so are the Space Marines.  So sorry for the extended time between episodes.  We have had a LOT of travel and I hope you’ve been able to check out some of our tournament coverage on other channels.

Getting it out of the way in the post, but we address it later in the show, the first born marines are gone  gone gone.  Moved to legends.  Is it good.  Is it bad?  Ultimately I think most folks are going to be ok with it.  It does absolutely suck to lose some vehicles people have been building, painting and buying but I am not sure how many first born marines were still on the table at most events.  In home games you can use whatever you want still AND the game published a certifiable list of proxies.  Not sure that has been done before.

Other than that, we cover some stand out units and detachments.  Just like the Ork dex there are a LOT of detachments. It’s hard to completely weigh them without points but we can get an idea of the ones that look fun to play.

It does look sort of modular and sort of like thick blocks of marines may be the standard but we will see!  I am looking forward to getting termiantors back on the table again.  – some folks will say they never left.

Some things are different.. some things are similar..  Did you guess there were going to be so many detachments and psychic rules?  We didn’t.. we give you the high level deets and pick out some of our favorites.

The Orks are the first Codex for this edition off the line and we wonder if this is the new blueprint and how will it apply to the rest of the factions?  There are TONS of choices.  Some units took a face lift and some went to legends.  Very interesting.

We are here for the Riling up and talk about it.

We’ve gotten some games in recently and it was pretty liberating to ‘play what I wanted to.’  Of course we can always do that but… can we?  The answer is always yes, of course, but we do have certain goals in mind when we play sometimes.  It was nice just to play for fun.

There are certain things that are true for army lists – you want to be able to ‘do something’ typically.  Like.. you want your cool shooting things to shoot and you want your cool fighty things to fight.  Its also kinda nice to be able to score some points sometimes.

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

What if you just kinda do all three?  That’s likely still good enough as long as you’re having fun.  The ‘vibe’ between you and your opponent is kinda key there. Are they approaching the game the same way?

Make some savvy decisions, make some rolls and lets see what happens!

In part one we talk about the RADICAL difference in the popular Army List Dispositions these last couple of weeks.  Purge the Foe was way at the top of the heap at edition launch but now it is a solid 3rd.  Take and Hold has risen to the top.  We talk about it.  In the 2nd part of the show we give our initial thoughts on Necromunda Skirmish.

GW was kind enough to send a copy of the new Necromunda Skirmish box and its very nice!  We talk about how accessible it is in the 2nd part of the show while seeming to keep the things people really love about the current game.  Get yours!

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

We spend a fair amount of the show talking about the army Dispositions and how much the landscape has changed.  There is one notable exception, Disruption is still at the bottom of the heap.

That in itself isn’t too surprising. I am not sure if we will ever see a true even split between all of the dispositions.  Or will we….?  Time will tell but I think the dispositions also have something to do with player personality as well. What do you think?

We kick off talking about the Tacoma Open.  If it isn’t on your list to hit I highly suggest you consider it. Good times all around and Adam and Paul were there to commentate on it.  We then kick over to talk about the new Exodites in the first half of the show, then the balance stuff for the second.

We start the show talking about event that was, then move on to the events that will be!  The new exodites are exo-citing.  We have been wondering if we would see these things for YEARS and they are here.  I am not saying we were entitled to these but how cool is it that we get to have them now?!

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

My goodness!  I think some of them could see play in 40k too.

In the back half of the show we talk about all the balance slates and what it brings to the table.  See what I did there?

We talk a lot about the new starter set in the first half of the show.  It  comes with the new terrain.  The terrain is unpainted. You also get some of the new release minis in the box but not quite as many as the Launch Box.  That’s cool though because it is EVERYTHING you need to get playing right out of the box.

There are several starter set to choose from up on the pre-order site right now.  Want a few minis and some paint just to get your toes wet?  You got it.  Want to dive on in with half an army? No problem.  Didn’t get the launch box because you were waiting on that sweet sweet terrain?  Now is your time to pounce!

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

You get what looks to be a combat patrol size for in the new starter set for either the Marines or the Orks.  These are a lot of the same models from the launch box but if you didn’t get them before, these may tempt you.  They are.. very cool.

You also get to see the Terrain up close and personal that is tailor made for the new mission formats.  With two of these boxes you can make every single terrain and every mission combination we’ve seen for this edition on the competitive/open play side.

Paul traveled to the far away place of 10-e-C to play in the ATC this past weekend and it was amazing.  There were several events taking place and multiple team events all playing Warhammer 11th Edition, with many playing for the first time.  It was amazing.

Blood Angels served Paul well at the ATC event going 4-1 and losing to what is arguably the best list in the game right now (all Suit Tau).  Will that list remain on top in the coming weeks?  Shooting into combat is mighty powerful and a low unit count in the Purge The Foe mirror can be an advantage.

The Angels did great!  I was very happy to field them alongside my teammates who are always a joy to hang out with and play this game with.  We won and lost as a team and it is an honor to call them friends.

One of the largest team events happened this past week and the pairing process just got a lot more interesting.  The Dispositions can’t be used more than once in addition to the Faction not being used more than one.  Verrrrrry Interesting.

This episode is a little behind be cause Paul was out playing in the America Team Championship.  He had a blast but we’ll hear about that next week.

In the middle of the show Paul talks to Jay – who has been an amazing sponsor for a long time.  Please continue to check out his shop and support his efforts.

Playing some games of 11th has us very excited but it hasn’t come without some learning.  The way we build lists is changing a little bit.  It’s not just about the detachment. It is also about how YOU are choosing your own Primary Mission and Table Layout. Veeeeery Interesting…

It will be some time before anyone has cracked the code on the perfect list for all of the Disposition combinations and I think that is a-okay.  We are going to be able to jump right into this edition with both feet and start playing with all the depth and flavor that we have right now because we get to use our same dexes and same detachment rules we know and love – for the most part.

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

We still don’t know about points and if there are any other changes to data cards yet but that will come in due time.  We are just seeing things up for a long pre-order window and there are bound to be more drops as we get closer to release.  I know I’m excited!

We share a little bit about our experience playing and some of the slight changes to list building we’ve had to think about.  It’s a been a fun puzzle to solve and collectively as a player base we are just getting started.
