This really isn’t a year in review show but we do get to talk about a lot of the models that were released over 2021. We pick our favorites and talk about some serious contenders.
Hi folks,
I hope everyone is having a safe and relaxing time during this holiday season.
In this episode we talk about some of the best models that came out in 2021. We still can’t believe it was 2021 in some regard. The time has flown and we really appreciate you all sticking with us and continuing to listen/support us. A sincere Thank You! It doesn’t matter if you’ve just found us or been listening since the beginning it means so much that you’ve clicked the like or subscribed or whatever.
We pretty much all agree that the big ole first Daemon Prince is the best model we’ve seen this year but that is in the eye of the beholder for sure.
What was your favorite? Does your favorite have more to do with the army you play right now or the army you wish you had?
Y’all don’t have to hear me talk about Death Guard terminators anymore. Ha! I’ve finished them. 20 Blightlords, a few Death Shroud and some character models are all ready for the tabletop. It’s been a fun project and thanks a bunch to the people that have encouraged me on Twitter and Instagram.

This week we talk a little bit about hobby progress and after the break we talk a bit about the new Tau things highlighted on the Warhammer Community page. Then we talk about THE META. What does that even mean?
Hi all,
Stats are stats as data is data. In a lot of cases you can make it mean whatever you need it to mean or not mean… I’m not trying to be vague here but with Games Workshop getting back into Matched Play events they are starting to release information on how these events went.
Win Rates have a lot of variance based on sample size, the pilots of those lists, the dice, the perfection to which the players played, the number of turns played, etc. etc.
To me, what is more meaningful is the go first win rate. The format, average player skill level, terrain and maybe even mission choice and order may have – for the first time in history – leveled the playing field on needing first turn. Is that legit?!
We front load the hobby talk on this episode and talk about where we are with certain projects. Hope you enjoy it and that you’re getting some time to work on your stuff!

We crack open the new GSC ability Crossfire in this episode. We don’t know a ton about what to expect from this faction shrouded in mystery and deep under the surface. Did you see what I did there? We tell you what we know before jumping into the back half of the show where we tell you how to beat Drukhari, kinda.
Hi folks,
Players of the Genestealer Cult have had a rough go of it as late and the faction isn’t seeing a lot of play. We know the players are chomping at the bit to get their hands on a new book and the wait is almost over!
We go over our thoughts about what is posted on the Warhammer Community page but we know this only scratches the surface.
After the break we talk about the uphill battle that a lot of players are facing when it comes to defeating Drukhari. They seem to have all the tricks!
The finishing moves section is more of a discussion topic than it is a painting tip.

Come join Paul this weekend on Warhammer TV! This show is going up early and we should be back to normal next week. This week we are talking about the Talons of the Emperor news that went up on the Warhammer Community site and then we close out with an anti-gift guide and some hobby inspiration.
Hi all,
We spend the first part of the show talking about the next version of the Custodes fighting styles as mentioned on the Warhammer community site. They look pretty dern interesting. Right now folks consider the Custodes a little streamlined in play style. Is this gonna mix it up?
At some point Paul butchers some Sisters of Silence lore but we do talk about how including a unit or two of these in your force might be potent if you can do so without much of a compromise on your other special rules.
Very tongue in cheek we talk about an anti-gift guide for your gamer buddies. Gamers mostly have all the ‘game’ stuff they need so if you feel like celebrating in a gift giving way you may have to think outside the box. We give a few suggestions.
The finishing moves section is more of a discussion topic than it is a painting tip.
Tanya and Paul talk about getting out of your own way and keeping yourself motivated to finish your models.

Very sorry about missing the release last week but Paul was in Austin doing some commentary on the Games Workshop US Open Series. On this episode we talk a little about what did well that weekend and what it takes to topple the big lists.
Hi folks,
The Balance Update was in full effect this past weekend along with updates for the Tyranids out of the Octarius campaign book. It made QUITE a difference. Drukhari are still at the top of the heap but that had as much to do with player skill as it did list design.
Good players doing well is not surprising but the consistent performance and top finishes certainly is. These players have been able to adapt to a changed environment and battle through great opponents and die rolls. No easy feat!
A list known as Thicc City seems to be the go to build for Durkhari players right now and we got to see why in Austin. It has a ton of durability and the ability to engage opponents on a variety of different levels.
We talk a bit about how that all went down and things players need to be on the lookout for before taking a break and coming back to talk about Lore, the behavior of Primarchs and the Horus Heresy novels.
Adam does his best to besmirch the good name of Sanguinius. This is kidding of course but we do have a serious discussion all the while throwing in quips about our favorite characters.

The Balance update is here and people by in large seem to be digging it. Is it what we needed to put Competitive 40k back on track? We are really seeing the beauty of the Matched Play rules design starting to flourish.
Hi all,
Like every other content creator that covers Warhammer 40,000 matched play we are talking about the balance update. It may not look like much but it is a doosey.
The Drukhari get a little bit of a downgrade by upping the points on a few units and the same goes for Adeptus Mechanicus. The good thing for those factions is it doesn’t make them uplayable in the slightest. The factions still have their teeth but opponents will feel like they have more of a fighting chance.
I think sometimes people sort of forget that several of the restrictions on how the game is played or how many times you can take X or do Y is a result of the Matched Play rules set which is a subset of the overall game of Warhammer 40k.
The Rules Folks took advantage of that and tweaked those matched play rules a bit to restrict the number of Aircraft that players can take based on the point level of the game.
The add to that the also put some restrictions in for the Orks limiting the number of a specific type of units they can take on the table as well.

We’re cracking open Octarius Book 2. For Matched Play the book is focused largely on Orks. The Blood Axe faction gets a pretty nice set of abilities. There is an Ork Army of Renown in the book too! If you’re an Ork player you’re definitely going to want this book and if you’re encountering a lot of Orks and tournaments you may be scratching your head and asking some of the same questions we do.
Hi folks,
Did the Orks actually need new rules? I guess you can ask that about most factions but it’s very interesting to continue to see additional rules coming out for a faction that already got new rules in recent memory.
For most players this might not matter but as tournament players where we see Orks continuing to dominate the scene with some pretty bonkers power only to see the faction get some additional abilities, it seems a little weird.
The good news for folks concerned is that the Buggies and such are likely going to keep running the army the way they have been and not use this army of renown at the moment as it looks like a bit of a ‘side grade’ opposed to an upgrade. I do like how this book offers another way to play an existing force someone may own.
The Blood Axes get an actual upgrade which is cool and also a nice littler reward for folks who may be playing the faction and its some incentive to get ‘boyz’ on the table which we’ve heard is something some Ork players think they may be missing.
The Imperial Agents in this book are… in the book, ha! They provide some cool flavor and I like the option of playing with great looking units and the opportunity to include a pupper!

The wonderful Aceface, John Hickton, joins us this week to discuss the absolute brutal things Tyranids get out of the Octarius campaign book. The Tyranids seemed to be missing a couple 9th edition signature abilities but NO MORE! We tell you what they’ve gotten and why its important.
Hi all,
This is a fun episode. We get to speak with someone who truly loves a faction (that isn’t Blood Angels). We are talking bugs, with a capital T and that stands for Tyranids. That’s right, we’ve got an infestation!
Tyranids have one of the oldest Codexes at the moment and this is starting to show its age by them losing out on a few abilities that seem to be so critical in this edition to remain competitive – rerolls. One of the biggest boons the Nids get is a massive ability to hand out rerolls from one of their big bugs. John tells us why this is so important.
Genestealers are a fan favorite and they also get some additional love out of this book. We talk about how the investment you need to make into the Stealers can seem like a lot. This makes it a little less so as you can wring it out of abilities and things you might already be taking so maybe you feel like it is less of a tax.
After the break we go meta… super meta in the fact that we talk about maybe changing the meta by reducing the points we play this game in Competitive 40k. 2000 points is the standard, but should it be? Do a lot of our problems go away if we reduce the points or are we simply creating new problems we don’t know about?
Let us know if you’re going to bring these things off your shelves.

Octarius absolutely gives some units a new lease on life – including Fortifications. I’ll be honest.. it’s hard for me to put Buildings in a list but wow, I may be breaking out a Bastion for my next test game. Can you say a building has legs? Cause this may be what a lot of units want in the game right now.
Hey folks,
We focus largely on Cadia and Fortifications in this episode. We’re saving the Nid talk for next episode. Hang in there for one more week buggy boos!
The Deathwatch faction comes swinging for the fences too. The Campaign books have always been hits but this one really comes in hot. All the factions represented here get some pretty powerful upgrades. For guard player this is interesting since they are still sort of limping in this edition with an older codex trying to compete in the ‘Modern’ world.
We hit the highlights on Astra Militarum and I think players will be happy with this. The other interesting thing is the call back to the OG Fortifications. I’ve taken them in the past when they were really advantageous and we might be right back in that spot now.
This is especially true with the bonus rules the Deathwatch are getting now. We’ve seen this faction getting a fair amount of play recently and these new rules are definitely going to inject a few more into the ecosystem.
Let us know if you’re going to bring these things off your shelves.

We’re talking about Black Templars this week. Adam is a long time Black Templar player and we’re anxious to get his thoughts. He’s a little critical of the book and we can’t blame him! What we can do though… is take a dive and figure out what we think one might want to build around while playing this faction.
Hey all,
Marines are Marines right? Maybe… but what we’re seeing is that Games Workshop is doing a lot to make the various Chapters feel unique, powerful and characterful based on their lore and the expectations people may bring to the table.
The Black Templar are no exception. One of the best things in the book is their ability to go deep into the stacks of Relics for their Chapter. I get the sense of them really cracking open the vaults and being able to bring their 1000s of years of experience to any situation.
The Templars can declare a Vow at the start of the game AFTER seeing which army they are playing against. Anything like this where you get to choose something after knowing a bit of information is nice. The ‘power’ here is yet to be determined but I think it’s a nice nod to swearing an Oath of the Moment.
Being able to pick Secondaries and a powerful army ability after you know what you’re up against seems good to me. The Templars gain the benefit of being sturdy Marines with a few tricks thrown on top. I can’t see how they won’t be good.
The Black Templar also have some STOUT characters that received an update as the result of this Codex. I foresee many players being able to build around these new Primaris upgrades. They are absolute beat sticks!
