Former Neo-Nazi To Radical Islamist Devon Arthur Full Length Police Interrogation
Former Neo-Nazi Devon Arthurs gained national attention in 2017 after he was arrested for the double murder of his two roommates in Tampa, Florida. Arthurs, who had previously been a member of a neo-Nazi group, claimed to have converted to radical Islam and stated that he killed his roommates because they disrespected his new beliefs. The case took a bizarre turn when it was revealed that his surviving roommate, Brandon Russell, was found to be in possession of bomb-making materials and had ties to extremist ideologies. Arthurs' police interrogation and trial shed light on his abrupt ideological shift, psychological instability, and the dark undercurrents of extremism.
On May 19th, 2017, officers from the Tampa Police Department were on routine patrol when a call came over the radio about a male who had entered a local smoke shop, claiming he had just killed two people. Officer Wallick, who was closest to the location, rushed to the smoke shop. Upon arrival, she saw a white male wearing a green shirt and black pants standing on the east side of the shop near the rear. The male was holding a handgun and repeatedly saying, "Shoot me, shoot me in the head, I just shot two people in the head."
After a tense confrontation, Officer Wallick managed to deescalate the situation and convinced the armed suspect to drop the weapon and surrender. The male, later identified as 22-year-old Devon Arthurs, was taken into custody. When officers asked Devon if anyone in the store was hurt which he denied but stated that he had shot two people at his apartment across the street. Devon was placed in a patrol car while officers proceeded to the apartment where the initial shooting allegedly occurred.
Finding the front door unlocked, officers entered the apartment to check for victims. As they cleared the apartment, they discovered two deceased white male subjects, both with massive head trauma. These individuals were later identified as 18-year-old Andrew Oneschuk and 22-year-old Jeremy Himmelman. Officers secured the crime scene and transported Devon back to police headquarters where the following interview would reveal the events that lead up to the deadly shootings.
