Fort Laramie presents “The New Recruit,” episode 13 of the CBS Radio western, originally broadcast April 22, 1956. Raymond Burr stars as Captain Lee Quince, with John Dehner as returning cavalryman Will Banyon.

After six years in the Army, Banyon comes back to Fort Laramie to reenlist—automatically reclaiming a sergeant’s rank and upsetting the company’s established order. As Sergeant Goerss objects, Captain Quince must consider what Banyon’s return could mean for discipline and cohesion on the frontier post. Written by E. Jack Neuman and directed by Norman Macdonnell.

Fort Laramie presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
