International Overdose Awareness Day is coming to Fort McMurray on Aug. 31 and the Wood Buffalo Wellness Society is welcoming people to join them at MacDonald Island Park for a walk to the Snye where talks and a BBQ will be happening. Rhonda Robinson and Joann Packham join us today to talk about the stigma toward people struggling with drugs, the importance of Naloxone and becoming educated about the topic.

The RMWB & Blackgold Soccer Tournament is right around the corner. Toks Adebayo joins us to chat about the upcoming tournament, what got him into soccer, and what people can expect at the community event. Jacey Gamroth from Variety Alberta joins us today to discuss how residents here have taken to Volt Hockey, what it’s like getting into the world cup, and how people can sign up for the new sport.

Acden Fleet’s 2nd annual Show & Shine in support of the Centre of Hope is happening on August 14. We’re joined today by Tracy Shulko from the Centre of Hope and Colleen Stewart from Acden. We discuss how important the Centre of Hope is for the community and what they do to support so many people in the community. Mike Mayuk, President of the Fort McMurray Baseball Association and Jodie Cooper, Director of Sport and Recreation at the RRCWB joins us to describe in detail what it takes to bring this to the city, what people can expect, and how you can take part. Fort McMurray’s first drift competition will be happening on August 12,13. JC Tessier and Ofir Braun from the 881 crew are with us to explain how they got started, what a drift competition is, and everything people can see and enjoy at Northern Bout 2022. Can a grain of sand hold Fort McMurray’s history? It turns out it can according to Dr. Robin Woywitka assistant professor in Earth and Planetary Sciences at MacEwan University. Dr. Woywitka teaches us about Infrared Stimulated Luminescence dating, informs us of when the people first began living in Fort McMurray, and just how a much a glacier can change the planet.
