Fort Wayne Footy

It was another wild week for high school soccer in the Fort Wayne area, a week that included games with double digit yellow cards, players missing due to injuries, and teams bouncing back from early defeats. As the season rolls on, we're seeing some storylines play out as we expected but others that we didn't see coming.

While the high school season is well under way, the college season is just getting started with some local teams playing at home this week you won't want to miss.

The season is now in full swing for both our local high school and college teams and some players are already having stand-out seasons. In this episode of Fort Wayne Footy, we'll highlight some of those star performances and discuss some lopsided scores that led to several games being called for the "mercy rule."

We also welcome Mohamad Azhar from Summit City United to share about their upcoming men's and women's professional indoor season.

The Indiana high school soccer season officially kicked off this weekend with a couple of big-time match ups on day one on both the boys and girls sides. Just days before that, the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association Pre-Season State Rankings were released. Is your team on the list? How did they do this weekend?

And earlier this week, we got a chance to talk with Oliver Gage, Fort Wayne FC's new Sporting Director. We'll share some clips from that interview and will release the full interview immediately following the live show.

All that and more in this episode of Fort Wayne Footy.

Although the Fort Wayne FC season has come to an end, our coverage of local teams continues. This week we welcome Carlos Cruz from FC Alianza to discuss the boy's 2009 futsal team's second place finish at the US Youth Futsal National Championship, a team that included Johnny Aye, who recently made his debut for Fort Wayne FC.

Also joining us this week is Josh Ayen from WANE TV who has been calling matches for both Fort Wayne FC and Purdue Fort Wayne.

Fort Wayne played two exciting and excruciatingly long matches in Flint, Michigan this weekend during the USL2 Central Conference playoffs. Both matches were decided after 30 minutes of extra time. Despite keeping a clean sheet through 117 minutes of the semifinal match, including a saved penalty by Aurie Briscoe, Fort Wayne was knocked out of the playoffs by Flint City with a scoreline of 2-0.

---

Our team hosted a live YouTube watch-along party for the semifinal match and then recorded our overall thoughts on the match and the season as a whole in this more condensed episode of Fort Wayne Footy.

Fort Wayne FC is going to the USL2 playoffs and we talked to Josh Patterson of the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette about what we can expect. We know Fort Wayne FC will travel to Flint, MI again for their first round matches but we do not yet know who their first opponent will be.

Josh gives us a breakdown of who he thinks it could be and why he thinks FWFC just might have the firepower to go on a deeper run this year than ever before.

Fort Wayne FC did not leave their playoff fate to chance in their final regular season match of the season coming away with a 4-0 victory over Kings Hammer FC Cincinnati. With the win, FWFC was crowned division champions for the third year in a row and are headed to the USL 2 playoffs this coming weekend.

Tonight we welcome Alsadiq Hasan to the show to talk about the team's performance this season and their plans for the playoffs.

We will also introduce you to Jarred White, the man behind the FW22 sponsorship.

Fort Wayne FC currently sits one point behind league newcomers, Lexington SC II, at the top of the Valley division on USL League 2. However, they have a game in hand to make up that difference. And with just two regular season games to go, they can control their own fate.

In this episode we have the opportunity to hear from two special guests from the club. Captain Tiago Dias will join us early in the show to talk about the season and their on field prep to finish strong. Justin Cohn is the Communications Director for the club and has news to share about the stadium project and your change to purchase season tickets.
