Consolidated Edison – better known as “Con Ed” – provides electricity, natural gas and steam to more than three-million commercial and residential customers in New York City and Westchester County. Con Ed was founded as the New York Gas Light Company back in 18-23.

And for that you can thank number two-hundred-forty-two on the Fortune 500: Henry Schein (SHINE). Started in the 19-30s as a storefront pharmacy, Henry Schein is transforming the dental and medical industries with digital tools that help doctors work more efficiently, and get patients out the door quickly.

There’s plenty of high-tech brands on the Fortune 500… but there’s just one company rooted in materials made by Mother Nature. Weyerhaeuser (WHERE-house-er) Company is the ONLY business on the list in the forest and paper product category. It’s one of the world’s largest private owners of timberlands. The Seattle-based corporation grows, harvests and replants trees on more than 12-million acres in the U-S and another 14-million acres in Canada.

Your summer travels may have you checking out – or checking in – to number one-hundred and fifty-one on this year’s Fortune 500… With more than 65-hundred properties across the globe, Marriott International offerings range from the luxurious Ritz-Carlton to the extended stay Residence Inn. Housing the world’s travelers is a big job, and requires a lot of employees – one-hundred and seventy-six-thousand to be exact.
