What does Psalm 23 actually promise?

Most people know the words, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” But many misunderstand what David is saying.

Psalm 23 is not a promise that life will be easy, that you’ll never suffer, or that God will give you everything you’ve ever wanted. Instead, it reveals something even greater: the Lord is the perfect Shepherd who provides, restores, guides, protects, and ultimately brings His people safely home.

In this message, we’ll explore:

Why “I shall not want” doesn’t mean what many people think it means.
How God restores wandering souls.
What it means to walk through the valley of the shadow of death without fear.
Why true peace is found in God’s presence—not in the absence of problems.
How every verse of Psalm 23 ultimately points to Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
Whether you’re walking through a season of uncertainty, grief, anxiety, or simply want to understand one of the Bible’s most beloved passages more deeply, this sermon will help you see Psalm 23 with fresh eyes and greater confidence in the faithfulness of God.
