This week we chat with Tracy Clark, an author whose latest book Hide is set in Chicago and features a seasoned black female police detective who has joined a new precinct and not only has to navigate a new professional network but also solve a recent murder on the waterfront.

This is Tracy's fifth novel but the first in this new series featuring detective Harriet Foster. By day Tracy is a puzzle editor for a Chicago newspaper which is perfect for her role as a writer of crime fiction creating puzzles for her protagonists and readers to figure out.

On this week’s show, your host, Justin Mog, highlights the fact that January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Awareness Month with our guest, Dr. Theresa Hayden, Treasurer of the People Against Trafficking Humans (PATH) Coalition of Kentucky (http://pathcoalitionofky.org). Their mission is to foster awareness, one step at a time, by educating and equipping everyone to understand, identify and reduce the risk of human trafficking through educational programming. Led by a Board of Directors, PATH works with academic, community, and faith-based organizations in an effort to raise awareness. PATH offers educational sessions on Human Trafficking 101, Digital Safety for Youth and Young Adults, and other topics related to understanding the impacts of human trafficking in modern day society. PATH was born in 2013 when a few Sisters of Charity of Nazareth (SCN) began a public prayer service during Derby Week because of the SCN Corporate Stance against Human Trafficking. Officially designated as a 501(c)3 in 2015, PATH strives to become the leading education and awareness organization in Kentucky regarding human trafficking.

In January, 2010 the President dedicated the month of January to raising awareness about the different forms of human trafficking, also known as modern slavery, and educating people about this crime and how to spot it. Media coverage in Louisville around the 1st Saturday of May invariably includes a reference to sexual human trafficking incidents. While it is important the public be informed this type of criminal activity occurs in our backyard, it is more important they be informed that it occurs year-round and that trafficking includes more than just sexual based incidents.
