On this week’s show, your host, Justin Mog, tackles the climate crisis head-on through a sober and inspiring conversation with Samuel Goodman, PhD. Dr. Goodman is a scientist by training, earning his doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. He has since spent his career working at the intersection of science and public policy in Washington, DC, at the National Academy of Sciences, U.S. Department of Defense, and U.S. International Trade Commission. 


Dr. Goodman has always been focused on climate change both in and out of the laboratory. It is an all-encompassing problem that influences every part of our civilization. However, over time, he grew frustrated with the lack of progress and seemingly dead-end ideas taking up all the air within climate discussions. The book, "Beyond Carbon Neutral: How We Fix the Climate Crisis Now” (New Degree Press) was his attempt to find firm footing and determine if solutions and hope truly exist. Amendment 1 enables the KY legislature to call itself in to session when ever it wants to-reducing the power of the Governor. Amendment 2 prevents the KY Constitution from being interpreted as allowing a women to have an abortion. Immigration also discussed. Recorded Friday October 27, 2022.

Deloris Pregliasco is a retired attorney and current mediator

She is a Former prosecutor and district judge; adjunct Professor at the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law. She is in her 2nd term as President of the Louisville League of Women voters and now Vice President of the Kentucky League of Women Voters. Dee Pregliasco has delivered speeches in cities across the State of Kentucky and is a strong advocate for an Advisory Commission of citizens that would make recommendations to legislators as to how district boundaries should be redrawn. The League of Women Voters have sponsored 13 election forums in Louisville for Mayoral, school board, Metro Council, legislative, and 3rd Congressional district races.

Dee Pregliasco is married with two grown children and two grandchildren. The League of Women Voters is a bi-partisan organization, neither Democratic, Republican nor Independent. Dee presented at the Sowers of Justice and the Louisville Fellowship of Reconciliation’s October 2022 Third Thursday Lunch.

To close out October this week, we chat with Lee Mandelo, author of Summer Sons, which recently went into paperback. This creepy novel is hard to categorize because it’s queer Southern Gothic, dark academia, and ghost story. It also touches on issues of race and class. The book is an amalgam of a lot of different ideas rolled into a complex story of friendship, grief, and family curses. We’re so glad Lee joined us to chat about their novel as well as an upcoming novella titled Feed Them Silence which comes out in spring 2023.
