Today on the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Josh Philpot shares that Ephesians 6 speaks about the responsibilities of children and parents in the Christian family. The instructions given in this passage are counter-cultural for today. Most do not see the importance of bringing up children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, let alone understand why it is that children are to honor their father and mother. As Christians, however, we ought to have a proper biblical understanding of Ephesians 6. It is a serious and sobering responsibility that cannot be taken lightly. What happens when we don't do this is a breakdown in our families. Does this have an effect on society in any way- Or is it only our immediate family relationship that suffers- Dr. Philpot asks Dr. Richard Caldwell what might the spiritual and moral effects be on our churches and the culture if Christian families do not take their responsibilities seriously.

Titus 2-1-5 envisions older members of the church influencing younger members. We read Paul telling Titus to speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. He shares instructions for Titus about what the older men and women in the church are to be and do so that the word of God will not be dishonored. These instructions include words such as teaching, encouraging, etc., meant for the older as they share with younger men and women. Psalm 145-4 declares, -One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.-. How can the people of God pursue this kind of ministry- What is required for this influence to occur in our churches- Is this meant to take place through discipleship or mentor relationships- What does this look like in the life of the church- In this episode of the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Richard Caldwell and Dr. Josh Philpot will help us to think through this passage and guide us in its application.

This week on the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Josh Philpot has questions for Dr. Richard Caldwell regarding cooperating with other denominations of the Christian faith. The kind of cooperation that he has in mind would involve working intimately with leaders, churches, and organizations that broadly confess the name of Christ. We know of these kinds of movements that have happened in the past. There have been ecumenical movements that have come together to share the gospel. There have been different denominations that come together in efforts to help the poor, homeless, and destitute. There has even been a harmonious establishment of Catholics, evangelicals, and para-church ministries working together with the impetus to bring about social reform in the culture. Dr. Philpot asks Dr. Caldwell if these are things that Founders Baptist Church would do and would Dr. Caldwell participate in these sorts of things. Dr. Philpot posits several scenarios for Dr. Caldwell so that we might understand why he would or would not participate in such activities.

This week on the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Richard Caldwell has a question or two for Dr. Philpot, who would ordinarily be asking the questions. Dr. Caldwell states that Founders Baptist meets twice on Sundays, holding both a morning and an evening service with different messages. Why do they do that- How do churches determine how often they should meet- Is there specific criteria for determining this, and who makes those decisions- In addition to these questions, he also asks, how should we think about churches that don't do church this same way- Dr. Caldwell asks Dr. Philpot to walk us through these questions, helping us to understand and reason biblically.
