JULY – By July, the fox cubs have grown significantly and are starting to explore further from their den. The family is no longer tied to the den, and the vixen and dog fox now take the cubs on longer trips around the neighborhood, teaching them important survival skills. APRIL - The fox cubs grow and develop quickly in their first month, which allows the vixen to finally leave them for short periods and venture out of the den. The cubs will also start making short trips out around the entrance to the den, but the vixen will be very protective as they're still very vulnerable. Why should you keep your pet cats and dogs away and why are the cubs described as 'month-old thugs'?

MARCH - During this month, the new generation of foxes will be born. The vixen will be almost exclusively in the fox den and will remain with the cubs for their first two weeks. The male foxes need to spring into action and provide all the food to the vixen as she will need to consume enough calories to ensure she produces enough milk. How many extra mice does the vixen need to consume during this time? What animal are newborn fox cubs often mistaken for?

FEBRUARY - With the mating season over, the vixen is now starting her 53-day pregnancy and will be busy finalising the location and preparation of her den before the cubs are born.
