At the end of last Sunday’s parable, the chief priests and Pharisees realize that Jesus is speaking about them. They want to arrest him, but they fear the crowds who regard Jesus as a prophet. Whatever else we hear in this parable, we need to hear it with crucifixion in the air.

At the beginning of Chapter 21 in Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus entered Jerusalem. He went into the Temple and drove out the money changers; he healed the blind and the lame who were in the Temple. We are still reading in chapter 21, so this is Tuesday of Holy Week

In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus prays, "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do” (Lk 23:34). Jesus may be too traumatized to offer forgiveness, but that doesn’t stop him from praying and asking the Father to forgive on his behalf.

When we were getting ready to build our new church, we wanted to give away a portion of our new church to the poor. We partnered with Habitat for Humanity and built a house for the poor before we built our new house for the church.
